At 1:11 a.m. Eastern Time, President George W. Bush signed into law a bill passed by both houses of Congress to save the life of Terri Schiavo.

The brain-damaged Florida woman has gone since 1:45 p.m. ET Friday without food or liquids, by order of Circuit Judge George Greer--in response to her husband's ongoing efforts to euthanize her.

The bill will permit Terri's family and representatives to have standing in federal court, possibly triggering a thorough review of Terri's condition and the behavior of her husband Michael, who has been accused of a conflict of interest in his guardianship of Terri.

The bill does not guarantee that Terri's life is now spared--but grants a federal review of her case before she is starved to death by judicial order.

The Senate unanimously passed the bill Sunday afternoon, before sending it on to the House--which approved the measure at 12:30 a.m. ET Monday by a margin of 203-58. A two-thirds vote was required.

47 of 100 House Democrats present in the emergency session voted in favor of the bipartisan bill, and 156 of 161 Republicans.
