Show of Force

Postby Deplorable MEh » July 5th, 2019, 9:16 pm

I think Trump's 4th celebration was a show of force. I'm hoping he's educated enough to know what a nuclear war would do. Of course we don't know what our government is capable of so we all could die without a nuclear winter.

I totally disagree with you on this. In my opinion, it was a salute to our military; inasmuch as it is the institution that defends our freedom and liberty and it was a salute to some of the many Americans, who the Left calls "Deplorables", were outstanding Americans who represented America at it's best. At the same time; it did not detract from the entertainment salute to the 4th of July that followed. The crowds that attended Trump's program, in the rain, demonstrated that the Public appreciated Trump's program. I was disappointed to see you accept the "same as usual" nonsense of the Left.

Making the 4th about military contributions is wrong. The Revolutionary War wasn't fought by our military alone. Men came out of their homes to fight. I don't think our military will protect our rights especially the 2nd Amendment. Do you think a Navy seal is going to take out the Supreme Court Justices if they try to take away your guns?

Thanks to Trump, I don't think that we have to worry about the Supreme Court taking anybody's' guns. The program that followed Trump's covered the "The Peoples'" aspect of the 4th. But Trump's program was much more then a military one with so many concerned persons named and their efforts so recognized. Actually, between both programs, it was probably the most appropriate 4 hours +/- for a 4th of July in a very long time.

Wishful thinking can get you killed. It's best to be skeptical when we are uncertain of whether or not Trump can keep the peace in an unstable world.

I was responding to your worry that the Supreme Court might rule in favor of a Gov't. being able to confiscate people's guns. I have no idea whether Trump can produce a workable plan for peace. he can't do it on his own and Congress has been a contrarian force against him too often. However, he has done more in trying then all those since Reagan put together.

Our problem is we used to have a good foreign policy where we knew who our enemies were because we didn't have allies and we minded our own business. Now we provide military aid like it's candy. I don't see Trump fixing this problem. He couldn't even keep a billion dollar casino.

I don't disagree with you regarding our allies and our enemies. George Washington in his "Farewell Speech" warned "the People" not to get into alliances and treaties committing our selves to defending them. However, the world is a much more dangerous place with a lot more countries capable of creating significant harm and there has to be some way to counter them. I would argue that the UN is not the agency to do so. And humans being what they are; there will always be someone who wants more power then he/she is entitled to. Our problem is that our education system has been being "dumbed down" over the last 50 years and people are not being taught about our Constitution and our form of Gov't. (a representative Republic; not a Democracy) much less the history of totalitarian forms of Gov't.; so the younger generations are not aware that Socialism/Communism accounted for 100 million deaths during the 1900rds. Our schools have become Left-wing propaganda mills. And this has happened in the direct opposite ratio to the removing of the Judeo-Christian influences in our culture/society.
