President Joe Biden will meet Queen Elizabeth II next week as more details regarding the itinerary for his first trip abroad as chief executive emerge.

Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday that Biden and first lady Jill Biden have been invited to Windsor Castle, outside of London, on June 13. The visit will take place after the G-7 summit, which is being hosted by the United Kingdom from June 11-13 in the southwest English city of Cornwall.

“The Queen will meet the President of the United States of America and First Lady Jill Biden at Windsor Castle on Sunday, 13th June 2021,” the royal family tweeted.

Biden is the 13th U.S. president to be granted an audience with the queen since she became the reigning monarch in 1953. The only commander in chief she did not meet since ascending the throne is Lyndon Johnson.

After Windsor Castle, Biden, who will also have one-on-one talks with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, is then scheduled to travel to Brussels, Belgium, for a NATO summit on June 14 before a separate U.S.–European Union conference. After that, he will fly to Geneva, Switzerland, for tense conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 16 after several ransomware attacks on companies that supply gasoline and beef to millions of Americans were carried out by Russia-based criminal groups.

Previous presidential royal visits have been marred by breaches of protocol.

Former President Donald Trump was late when he met the queen in 2018, shook her hand rather than bowing, and walked in front of her as the pair inspected an honor guard. Ex-first lady Michelle Obama caused concern when she hugged the queen in 2009.

Biden has been known to make verbal and other missteps during his five-decade political career.
