Young adults' pro-life campaign a success
By Matt C. Abbott

From Emily Bissonnette, American Life League's Crusade for Life media director:

"I thought you might be interested in an update on the 2005 Crusade for Life walks.

"Praise God, many fruits from the young adults' efforts have already been seen. Among the three routes, at least six babies have been saved. It is such a joyous thought to know that these children will have the opportunity to live because of the witness of a handful of young adults. The Crusaders hope that people across the country will be a similar witness in their own cities and states, resulting in hundreds of lives being saved.

"Recently, the California walk has been able to take the message, 'You can't be Catholic and pro-abortion' to elected officials, ranging from Sen. Nancy Pelosi to the newly elected mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, to Leon Panetta. While outside of their offices, the Crusaders have been able to educate passersby about the incompatibility of Catholicism and support of abortion.

"The Great Lakes walk has been particularly blessed to meet with several bishops. It has been a privilege for them to discuss the loss of one-third of our generation with the leaders of the Catholic Church in America. I imagine it has been encouraging for the bishops, as well, to see young adults so on-fire for their faith and for the pro-life cause.

"The Northeast walk has been surprised at the lack of confrontation they have received in cities such as New York and Boston. One can only hope that this is a sign of our culture turning from death to life. Each Crusade carries a relic with them, and the Northeast has a relic of St. Maria Goretti. On her feast day, they were praying outside of an abortion clinic in Connecticut, and one of the women chose life instead of following through with her scheduled abortion.

"In just a week and a half the Crusade walks will end for the year. We pray that the seeds that have been planted in more than 20 states by these courageous young adults will be cultivated and result in our country embracing a culture of life.
