Priest defends college student, says gay sex 'subhuman'
By Matt C. Abbott

Father Jeffrey T. Robideau of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lansing, Mich., is speaking out in defense of Duquesne University student Ryan Miner, who, according to a report from LifeSiteNews.com, has been punished for statements he made, pertaining to homosexuality, "on a website which had no connection to the [Catholic] school."

Father Robideau, author of the book Homosexuality: A Look at Catholic Teaching, told me the following (via e-mail, slightly edited):

"I sent my book to several people in various offices at the school with the following letter:

"Dear Duquesne University faculty, staff and students —

"Responding to recent news reports about your school, the following information may be helpful.

"If Ryan Miner stated that homosexuality, meaning the homosexual act, is 'subhuman,' then he is correct about Catholic Church teaching. How can speaking the truth be contrary to your school's code of conduct policy? It is always the policy of the Catholic Church to speak the truth.

"Homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered. If you or your school says otherwise, then you are in violation of Catholic teaching — a far greater crime and a sin.

"By virtue of being intrinsically disordered, homosexuality is not a human act, but is a depravity and an abomination as Sacred Scripture, the Church and the Catechism all state so clearly.

"To help you fully understand the Catholic teaching on natural law as it pertains to the disordered nature of homosexuality, please read the enclosed book.

"I do hope you will assist your school in recognizing the error of its way."
