Grievance filed against Catholic attorney, lay activist, and columnist
By Matt C. Abbott

In the ongoing Miami archdiocese saga, Nancy Heise, whom I have quoted in previous columns, has filed a "formal grievance" with the Vatican against Catholic attorney Sharon Bourassa (who, incidentally, is quoted in this May 1 Miami Herald story on an unrelated matter); Stephen Brady, founder and president of Roman Catholic Faithful; and yours truly.

Heise claims that "Sharon Bourassa has been proven to be lying about having a group of secret priests telling her that 90 percent of all our priests are practicing homosexuals here in the Miami archdiocese." She says Christifidelis, a group of lay Catholics with whom Bourassa is associated, is a "witch hunting group" that is "no different than the KKK." And she has asserted that Bourassa, Brady and I "have stolen the spiritual innocence of many children here in South Florida with [our] evil rants."

Perhaps Heise's "grievance" will do some good. Perhaps some of the filth that permeates the American Catholic Church will be cleaned out — at least in one archdiocese.

One can only hope.

James Likoudis' new book

Eastern Orthodoxy and the See of Peter contains three chapters which give an account of and the reasons for Likoudis' own reconciliation with the Catholic Church from Greek Orthodoxy. Other chapters deal with the concept of "Undivided Church" and reflections on the "History of the Byzantine Schism," "Apologetics, the Papacy, and Eastern Orthodoxy," the "Marks of the Church," "Eastern Orthodoxy and Contraception: Humanae Vitae as Touchstone of the True Church"; the first English translation of Blessed Pius IX's 1848 encyclical In Suprema Petri, calling for the reunion of the separated Eastern churches; and publication of conferences on Original Sin in Eastern Orthodoxy, Our Lady as Mediatrix and Coredemptrix in Eastern theology, and the Mariology of the 14th-century dissident Byzantine theologian Gregory Palamas.

The book is available from the author at his home address: P.O. Box 852, Montour Falls, NY 14865 ($24.95 S&H — 174 pages, small print).
