Calif. priest gave money to Obama campaign; Rosary novenas are underway
By Matt C. Abbott

Sadly, it seems there's at least one priest in California who supports Barack Obama. (Gosh, for a while there, I thought it was just Fathers Michael Pfleger and Andrew Greeley, here in Chicago, the murder capital of the U.S., who support Obama.)

According to FEC records (click on the image below), Father Arthur Holquin, pastor of Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano, gave money to the Obama campaign.

I can't imagine Father Holquin being unaware of Obama's support for abortion "rights" and his pro-abortion voting record, so it's extremely disappointing that Father Holquin would give the Obama campaign any money. Even if he wasn't aware of it, it certainly wouldn't have taken much research to find out.

That said, if Father Holquin has since renounced his support for Obama, I will gladly update this column to indicate as such.

(Thanks to the reader who e-mailed me the information.)

Rosary novenas for the election are underway. See Father John Corapi's Web site and Catholic Family News.

Father Corapi writes (slightly edited):

'Many of you have called and e-mailed asking what a novena is. A novena is a devotion consisting of nine separate days of prayers or services. This particular novena is to pray the rosary (five decades) beginning October 27 through November 4 — nine days — that God's will be done in the election for President of the United States of America; and that the most innocent and utterly vulnerable of our brothers and sisters will be protected from the barbaric and grossly sinful blight on society that is abortion. Since you are reading this after October 27, just start praying the rosary everyday for the cause anyway; every prayer will help!

'No other issue, not all other issues taken together, can constitute a proportionate reason for voting for candidates who intend to preserve and defend this holocaust of innocent human life that is abortion.

'I strongly urge every one of you to make a novena and pray the rosary to Our Lady of Victory between October 27 and Election Day, November 4. Pray that God's will be done and the most innocent and utterly vulnerable of our brothers and sisters will be protected from this barbaric and grossly sinful blight on society that is abortion. No woman, and no man, has the right to choose to murder an innocent human being.'
