Sorry folks, wrong call on deadly mix: Darwin and Hitler
By Bonnie Alba

I apologize. After viewing Dr. D. James Kennedy's "Darwin's Deadly Legacy" last weekend, I felt totally disappointed and regretful that I had recommended this program to Christian families. It appeared hastily put together and thinly disguised to promote authors and their books. But the clincher was Dr. Kennedy's statement: "No Darwin, No Hitler." Sorry Dr. Kennedy, as much as I respect you and your ministry, this is not a true statement. At the least, it's only part of the story.

The "God is dead" philosophical movement was already on the rise in the late 1800s and the "age of enlightenment," or man's reasoning, had replaced God's truth. All the "isms," including Darwinism, took the rightful place of the "I AM." Men then desired, and continue their doomed-to-fail attempts, to create Utopia on Earth. I am being simplistic here for lack of room to explain in depth.

Christians know "There is none righteous, no, not one." Men's hearts are more readily turned to evil if they do not know God or deny Him. Yes, Hitler was influenced by Darwinism, yet he was also influenced by his life experience and mentored by his closest associates who were involved in the Occult. His vision was another kind of earthly Utopia.

The growth of the humanistic and atheist religions crosses all segments of human societies, not just Darwinian science. Note: Their influence has entered into many mainstream churches where the Bible is now ignored as the authoritative Word of God.

Amongst the Christian community at large, Hitler was just one of many we call a "type of anti-christ." There are many of them alive and well in today's 21st century — dictators in charge of their own tiny corner of the world. Some of them we know by name even now: Saddam Hussein is just one, also, Venezuela's Pres. Chavez, Iran's Pres. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, North Korea's Kim Jong II, etc. But they did not arise solely from belief in Darwinism.

Some of these little, but dangerous, men have not reached the heights of their own brand of evil leadership just yet. Many of them have yet to reach the extreme evil of Hitler or Stalin but they are dictators who, on a small-to-larger scale, follow in the shadow of their predecessors.

Missing the gist and point of my article, "Deadly Mix: Darwin and Hitler," most responders zeroed in on and rebutted the influence of Darwin. Most missed the polarity of mankind, the good and evil actions of men, the pointed idea that even if men are not influenced by Darwin to do evil, men will choose to justify their actions using excuses and, as in today's world, project the consequences and results of their own actions on others or some one thing — but not themselves.

Much of American society has forsaken knowledge and recognition of "good and evil." Men continually evade accepting personal responsibility for what they do or do not do. When the higher moral code of God is hidden away and is denied as having any power over us, then evil will be done in the name of __________ , you fill in the blank.

One word missing in America's vocabulary is "sin." Associated with God and the Bible, sin has been rejected from the public arena including schools over the last 50 years. Many children would not recognize the word. They do hear about "right and wrong" but lack the knowledge of what right and wrong are based upon. We hear a lot about Character Development Programs in education but who decides what is right and wrong? Depends on who is in charge.

It is written: "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us." All of us.

One reader asked me: "If you know that the Bible is written by humans, couldn't it be possible that it is not true, but that it offers answers IF you believe in it?" My answer: The Bible stands alone whether anyone believes it is true or not — for its wisdom and truth are not manmade nor does God and His Word change just because man chooses to believe differently.

God's Word is "sharper than any two-edged sword."

To Christian families: There are many resources available to help educate your children about Darwinism, and also about Humanism and Atheism. Kennedy's "Darwin's Deadly Legacy" is just not a good one. Yet we should not give up on Dr. Kennedy's ministry as he has produced much in showing us America's spiritual history and how God was in the midst of it from the beginning.
