One nation under God? Whose God?
By Bonnie Alba

America is "one nation under God." Or, has America rejected the biblical Creator-God of the Bible, the God of our founding fathers?

Though surveys show a large percentage of Americans claim to believe in God, church attendance is low — the entertainment industry is thriving and earning the big bucks. Yes, observe where Americans spend their money if you want to know how poorly God is doing in the souls of men.

Millions of Americans profess to be Christians. But most could not say they read and study God's Word or live out God's commands and principles.

Another way to discern signs that we are no longer a "nation under God" is noting the events of recent years at all levels of society and government. Our society and government shows an increasing acceptance of multiple gods. What used to be a minority has grown to a majority. I provide just two signs that the nation of America has forsaken and given up on God:

** News Item: On July 12, 2007, Rajan Zed, a Hindu, from Reno, Nevada, opened the Senate with a prayer. He was invited by Sen. Harry Reid. His "meditation" was on the transcendental glory of the deity supreme, who is inside the heart of the Earth, inside the life of the sky and inside the soul of heaven. May he stimulate and illuminate our minds."

What god was Rajan Zed appealing to out of the pantheon of thousands of deities the Hindu religion pays homage to? Sen. Reid commented: "I think it speaks well of our country that someone representing the faith of about a billion people comes here and can speak in communication with our heavenly Father regarding peace." How do we know what God?

This just exhibits the total ignorance of Sen. Reid, his acceptance of the "extreme tolerance for the intolerable" we are now experiencing and his own rejection of God's admonitions against worshipping any god but the "I AM" of the Bible.

Do you think we are still a "nation under God" when our elected officials allow someone who does not believe in the God of the Bible to say a prayer in the Congress of the United States?

** News Item: A break with history: In 2006, a man was elected to Congress by Minnesotans, his name: Keith Ellison and he is a Muslim. He swore the congressional oath of office with his hand on, not the Bible, but on the Islam Quran. This book of Mohammed calls for deceiving and lying to all unbelievers or infidels. Who are the infidels? Most Americans. So, question: How can we trust anything this man says if he is called as a good muslim to deceive us, the infidels?

Just these two signs are ominous ones for America's future. Need I say the words which have transformed our nation: Pluralism and Multiculturalism? We are no longer a "melting pot" under the foundational, once-dominant religion of Christianity. More and more, we are resembling the Tower of Babel.

Other major signs have occurred over the last 50-60 years — the loss of acknowledging virtue throughout society and government; increasing acceptance of immorality. Add the reluctance to use the three-letter word "s-i-n" to describe wrong behavior.

Then there is the public school indoctrination of godless evolutionism, "you are an accident with no purpose," and the teaching of "s-e-x" behavior without mores and rules. There are many other components of our nation, such as the entertainment industry, materialism and infanticide, where God is rejected.

In that regard, we are no different than the downshift of the people's behavior in the ancient Roman Empire or the biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. On its last legs, the Roman Empire fell under the weight of the peoples' corruption and immorality. Or, God allowed this destruction. He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

God allows "nations to go their own way" just like He allows individuals to "go their own way" by "giving them over" to the fulfillment their own desires. (Romans 1:18-26) When that happens, God has already determined they have rejected him.

Ronald Reagan once said about America and God that he recognized caution in claiming that God is on our side, but "...I think it is all right to keep asking if we're on His side."

That is the question we must ask ourselves and keep asking ourselves.

Hope: God always saves a remnant in every generation. Whatever direction our nation chooses, there will be an American remnant who will teach the next generation to carry on, proclaiming the truth of God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
