Horror, exile, and death

Atrocities against human beings occur every day worldwide. Often we hear an outcry when an offense is especially egregious. But what could be more egregious than the wanton slaughtering of innocent babies or than the premature death of those who are ill? Let us examine the actions, or the inactions, of our daily lives. Souls are at stake.

It is with growing concern that Americans watch the travesties being perpetrated against Christians in Mosul, Iraq. One man who was interviewed for USA Today told his story, "When we left in the middle of the night, we were stripped of everything. Money, wallets, jewelry, ID, passports, watches, everything. . . . At the Daesh checkpoint on the way out of the city, my wife was even stripped of her earrings. They took everything of value we had."

Such total disregard for the human being, not to mention hatred for Christianity itself, seems to be one of the many violent characteristics of the Islamic war against believers in Iraq these days.

Writer Kirsten Powers recently opined, "Iraq's Christians are begging the world for help. Is anybody listening?" She went on to write, "For the first time in 2,000 years, Mosul is devoid of Christians." Human rights lawyer Nina Shea told Powers, "This is ancient Nineveh we are talking about. . . . They took down all the crosses. They blew up the tomb of the prophet Jonah. An orthodox Cathedral has been turned into a mosque. . . . They are uprooting every vestige of Christianity."

Horrific seems like an appropriate description of such events. They are a tragic example of man's inhumanity toward his fellow man – an intolerance that is carried out with the sword held to the hearts of those who will march in lockstep with the ghouls in charge.

But as we think about this as Christians ourselves, perhaps we are missing the most vital point of all in the debate. Many Americans have developed a type of historical amnesia permitting themselves to report stories of exile and murder of Christians in other countries, while at the same time sanctioning our own war on innocent children, the elderly, and adolescents.

Far too many media and others advocate for abortion or choose to ignore the plight of the incurably ill as they are deprived of life at the will of others. Powers is the exception to this rule. The very same individuals who are self-described "news" reporters never mention the fact that assaulting the senses of our children with all sorts of sexual indoctrination masquerading as education is a horror all its own.

America is morally blind to its own flaws! Of that, there is no doubt.

Take, for example, the married couple who raises money for a no – kill cat shelter and who is concerned about "the ethics" of eating meat – a couple who also pickets pro-lifers and mocks their commitment to respect for life at every stage. LifeSiteNews reports on this husband and wife:

They began documenting their shenanigans on their blog, Saturday Chores, and soon they received profile pieces in
Cosmopolitan and The Huffington Post. The executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina, Suzanne Buckley, recently sent Tina "a *heartfelt* thank-you" for her efforts.

"It's true that we're mocking people," Grayson Haver Currin – who adopted his wife's maiden name when he married – told several media outlets. But Tina said their actions have been well received, except for "some creeps on the Internet."
The husband and wife have taken on media celebrity status because they ridicule Christians who love life – and right here on our own soil!

We kill children. We sanction the premature killing of the elderly and infirm. We deride those who love and cherish life. And yet we decry the violence of others. Something is terribly wrong!

Let's stop this hypocrisy and examine how much horror, exile, and death occurs daily right here on our own soil. And once we see it, let's do something about it. We cannot stand idly by with our mouths and hearts closed.
