Role reversal -- A call to defend the American soldier
By Brad Turner

As I sit here reflecting on the legacy of Dr, Martin Luther King Jr., I am reminded that Dr. King had a unique vision. He had a vision that wasn't just for black citizens, but a vision of equality and fairness for society as a whole. Dr. King's belief was based and grounded in one document..............the Constitution of the United States of America.

Fast forward to 2006, and the case of a military man by the name of Mike New. Many Americans are unfamiliar with Mr. New's story, so let me give the proper background information. Specialist New was court-martialed in 1996 after his refusal to follow an order that would place him under direct command of the United Nations, specifically a general from Finland. Mr. New to his credit did not believe that he, as an active American military member, should be required to take an oath, or be under command of the United Nations personnel. He could not be anymore correct than the stand he took almost 10 years ago. Time has done significant damage to the publicity of this case, but it doesn't change the importance of it.

The current climate is frightening. We have a proud, honorable American soldier going to trial and being required to defend himself against the global belief of U.N. superiority. As America, how have we even let this go on for so long? How do we turn our backs on one of our own? Is this the kind of leadership the Founding Fathers would have envisioned? Is the most important issue pressing our country whether Sam Alito was a member of a club 30 years ago?

The current cowardice and lack of attention does not limit itself to one party. Both Democrats and Republicans should be ashamed of the lack of attention that has been given to Specialist New. As both parties prepare for the 2006 mid-term elections, we see the posturing and rhetoric of being pro-military, yet the common foundation of our Constitution is being attacked, and not a soul, save Mr. New, dares address it. If the individuals we have elected to serve, protect, and defend the Constitution will not honor their responsibilities, it is our job to replace them.

Alexis De Tocqueville said "The power of the periodical press is second only to that of the people." We should be moved to action and driven by duty to our country, and its foundation. I encourage anyone who can, to show up in full force on February 16th, in Washington D.C. to support one of our own. Michael New will have his day in court. Our spirit of humanity and justice must remain unchanged in times like this. The very future of our country is at stake.

This could only be an extension of what we have seen regarding a gradual shift from states rights, to the global superiority of the United Nations. We are starting to see calls from our judicial bodies, to recognize and seek the counsel of international law, and subvert the Constitution in the process. James Madison offers us the encouragement we need to see that it is not too late. He said "A pure democracy is a society consisting of a small number of citizens, who assemble and administer the government in person." This is still OUR government, and it is still OUR country, but for how long? Where do we draw the line and fight for what caused the deaths of so many?

We can not rest now. The enemies of the Constitution and the pro-NWO crowds will continue their charge until they have either won, or we have been forced to accept their plan. The choice is ours America. Our direction hangs in the balance. February 16th in Washington DC in the U.S. Court of Appeals is Round 1. The very men who have sworn to protect us, now need us to fight for them. I choose to fight.
