National insecurity
By Brad Turner
As we begin to see the finish line known as the midterm elections of 2006, the most hotly debated issue outside of Iraq, is the illegal immigration issue. Many Americans feels strongly on both sides of the issue, and it will clearly be a defining topic before voters cast their votes in November. Somehow, we have allowed this issue to become the elephant in the living room, and it's time to do something about it.
The issue at hand is not whether we encourage or discourage immigration. The issue is do we allow lawlessness to replace due process. In America, we are a land of law, and a people who follow it. The illegal immigration issue has been twisted by liberal groups into a race argument, and the giddy media has happily picked up the trail. That is not the case at all, and we should not be afraid to present our side for fear of being labeled a racist. Name-calling is reserved for cowards who don't have an argument.
This very argument is in itself anti-American. America has never been a country who has discouraged "the tired and the poor" from seeking a better life, regardless of origin. If we allow illegal immigration to continue unchecked, the very foundation, and the very history of our country will be lost.
What are our elected representatives doing about? Absolutely nothing. A cloud of cowardice has grown wide over the capital of this great country. Our elected officials have ignored their constitutional duty to protect this country. I am aware of a plan being submitted by Sen. Majority Leader Bill Frist that would put the burden of preventing the hiring of illegal aliens on businesses. Mr. Frist, how about shifting the burden to where it belongs, the U.S. Government? Why not accept the responsibility laid out for you in the Constitution, and quit shifting the work? We have been betrayed, and the only way to show our displeasure, is to vote out anyone, regardless of party, who does not vote to secure our borders, and eliminate this threat.
I am aware of close to my home, in Nashville TN, a Hispanic advocacy group has requested that the chief of police, NOT, I repeat NOT, arrest illegals for particular crimes if they are pulled over, or reported to police. Did you hear me correctly? They DO NOT want us to process illegals for crimes committed. We have seen students leave class in California, to march in favor of illegal immigration. This is the country we live in today folks. Our very existence as we know it is at stake. The melting pot has boiled over, and it is time to clean up the kitchen.
This is a crisis situation. It can no longer be overlooked. President Bush has not dealt with this issue as forcefully as he has the war on terror. It can not be stated enough. This has just as much to do with national security as does Al-Qaeda. National Security is not just about a military threat. This threat is economical, this threat is cultural, and this threat is growing. Calling an illegal alien and undocumented immigrant is like calling a burglar an uninvited houseguest.
With currently 14 million illegal aliens roaming the streets of our country, the social welfare system has taken quite a hit. Our hospitals by law cannot turn down anyone who is seeking emergency treatment, and illegal aliens have figured out the way to play the game. The resources that are for the American people are quickly being run dry. The bleeding heart liberals of this country believe it is our responsibility to take care of people who are not citizens of this country. They want to do it with your hard-earned tax money. You would think that liberals, who love to spend other people's money, would realize how much money America could save, and therefore spend, if we eliminated this unnecessary tragedy.
The tragedy of this situation is those individuals who have done it the right way. Those who understand the sacrifice and the enormous privilege it is to become an American citizen. These individuals EPITOMIZE what it means to be an American...................hard work and sacrifice to reach the goal that is offered to all in the land of the free.
America, we have been sold a bill of goods by Washington, that they intend to protect our country from enemies both foreign and domestic. This is not true, and our trust has been compromised. They have turned their backs on us. Because of this, I applaud the efforts of the Minutemen who value our borders, and understand there are ways to enter our country, but crossing in the dark of night, or through underground tunnels, is not the way. Elected officials have made their choice. It is our job to make sure they know ours. I call on America to remove every single public official who is not in favor of immediate lockdown of the border, full prosecution of illegal aliens, and an overhaul of our immigration system to deny protection to those who harbor illegal aliens. We need harsh penalties to discourage companies from hiring illegals.
We have been called into the streets as Americans. It is not a right to be an American, it is a privilege that must be defended by law. Americans welcome those who want to come into the country, to begin a new life, and make a better way for themselves by following the proper process. We reject those who want the benefits of living here, but don't value our country enough to follow her law.
