The bratty behavior of the inhabitants of the left
By Dennis Campbell

My friend and prolific web-writer Jan Ireland likes to say that what liberals need is "a good dose of parenting." A couple of recent items in the news proves her right the inhabitants of the left are just, well, self-centered, rude, disruptive and dominated by their emotions.

In other words, like your typical 2-year-old.

The first item was a stunning column in IsraelInsider.com by Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, himself quite left-leaning, that chronicled his experience with a group of leftist university students at Boston's Faneuil Hall, which he describes as "the birthplace of American independence and liberty."

Dershowitz's sin? He is pro-Israel, and thus a target of the rage of the left, which is saturated in anti-Semitism. He writes:

"I was accosted by a group of screaming, angry young men and women carrying virulently anti-Israel signs. The protest was denominated a peace event and was sponsored by a group calling themselves by the vague name ACT-MA. Their website describes them as promoting peace and justice and associated with larger solidarity organizations, but there was nothing peaceful or just about this protest."

Among the protestors, "One sign carrier shouted that Jews who support Israel are worse than Nazis. Another demanded that I be tortured and killed. It wasn't only their words; it was the hatred in their eyes. If a dozen Boston police were not protecting me, I have little doubt I would have been physically attacked. Their eyes were ablaze with fanatical zeal."

This is 2-year-old behavior in 20-year-old people. This is how leftists treat those with whom they disagree not with the reasoned debate of adults, but with the tantrums of toddlers. But toddlers can only annoy you, not hurt you; these people can hurt you, or (as history has proven) even kill you if given the opportunity.

He rightly describes them as reminiscent of "young Nazis in the 1930s in Hitler's Germany" and as "a bunch of self-righteous thugs shouting ugly and bigoted epithets." Finally, someone from the left admitting what conservatives have known for so long: It is these virulently hateful leftists who are Nazi-like, not conservatives.

The other item is not so chilling but rather humorous, and demonstrates the outright brattiness of liberals. It comes from a story by Los Angeles Times writer David Shaw about rude people in restaurants.

How do I know they are liberals? Because they are from West Hollywood and Santa Monica, where conservatives are as scarce as hair on Michael Jordan's head. Listen to some of the stories related to Mr. Shaw:

"People steal everything," one proprietor says. "Silverware, salt and pepper shakers, wine coasters, the small flashlights we hand out if you need more light to read the menu everything. We used to have conical glass vases with tropical fish in them, hanging on the wall in our ladies' room. Women would flush the fish and the water down the toilet and steal the vases.

"We even had people steal pictures out of their frames and hang the empty frames back on the bathroom wall."

So, you see, it is more than just your paycheck liberals are after!

Relates another: "One night a guy got up and dimmed the lights in the whole restaurant so much that people couldn't read their menus. I turned them back up. He dimmed them again. I asked him to please not do that. When I walked away, he turned them all the way up, so it was almost blindingly bright."

The most egregious behavior Shaw uncovered, though, was this:

"Two months ago, a man and a woman came here on a blind date. The guy must not have liked her because midway through the meal, he gets up, comes to the hostess stand and says he wants to pay his share and leave quietly. He just walks out and leaves her sitting there, eating and wondering where he is. About 30 minutes later, she comes up and asks if her date's in the men's room."

Sounds to me like the relationship between Democrats and African Americans.

Self-centered, disruptive, abusive, angry, rude, eager to take what is yours, emotional yes, indeed, those on the left are very much like your best friend's brat who raises hell every time you visit, as you force a smile and bite your tongue out of politeness.

But this does raise a very pertinent question: Do we want the family brat in control of the family? Everyone should consider that miserable prospect before entering the voting booth.
