This 2007 New York Times piece should be Mitt Romney's 2012 death knell. He got the endorsement of the pro-gay Log Cabin Club in his 2002 run for governor of Massachusetts, and pledged to use the bully pulpit as governor to lobby for special workplace rights based exclusively on sexually deviant behavior. He promised to be more pro-gay than Ted Kennedy, if you can believe it, and said he wanted homosexuals "to serve openly and honestly" in the military. As governor, the Times points out that Romney "did order town clerks to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples." Despite a state Supreme Court ruling, Massachusetts law has never been changed to legalize same-sex marriage, so Romney did this by executive fiat and in contravention of existing state law. If you want to trace the recognition of gay marriage in the U.S. to its source, Mitt Romney is it, the man who kick-started the push to legalize sexually abnormal relationships at the state level. The man would be a disaster in the White House on social issues. http://ow.ly/4bEEc

Gov. Quinn "turned to the Bible for wisdom" before banning capital punishment in Illinois. I guess he didn't get as far as Genesis 9:5-6, in which God says, "From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man. Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image." What part of "by man shall his blood be shed" does the governor not understand? If he was looking for a New Testament reference, Romans 13:4 will do nicely: "[H]e (civil government) does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer." A sword, of course, is a weapon of lethal force. The governor did not turn "to" the Bible and its wisdom; he turned away from the Bible and its wisdom. http://ow.ly/4bFA1

As Rep. Peter King begins his hearings today on authentic Islam in the US — the jihad kind — here's all you need to know about the compatibility of true Islam with the West. The Saudi king is just now getting around to thinking about allowing women to drive. Plus, religious police roam the streets in Riyadh enforcing strict gender desegregation in public and punishing women not wearing headscarves. http://ow.ly/4bzag
