Politics and Christian duty--Part Two
By Madeline Crabb

Charles Finney said Christians are going to be judged for their actions in the political/public policy arena. But won't we also be judged for what we don't do?

Silence is not golden, it is deadly. Silence of the church means death to our society, so shouldn't all Christians be involved in the political/public policy arena?

In 1962, the Supreme Court, banned prayer from schools. That humanist-influenced decision was one of many that have altered the course of our nation, and the Church barely whimpered. The consequences of court decisions and the silence of the Church are myriad. This past week two Indianapolis elementary school children were caught at school in a sexual act. Oh how far we have fallen...

David Barton explains the Founding Fathers believed that both individuals and nations are accountable to God. "An individual answers to God in the future, but not a nation; when a nation dies, it is forever dead; it will not be resurrected in the future to answer for what it has done." So the question is: When does a nation answer to God? George Mason, the Father of the Bill of Rights, explained:

A nation cannot be rewarded or punished in the next world, they must be in this. By an inevitable chain of causes and effects, Providence punishes national sins by national calamities.

Aren't there national calamities and catastrophes all around us? The mere fact we are openly and shamelessly discussing homosexuality and same-sex marriage shows America has a serious problem. Other great nations have been destroyed from within. America seems to be attempting societal suicide, but then, God could also be allowing judgment.

The Church has the answers and must more boldly speak God's Truth about our decaying society. The Church must get involved in the political arena where public policy is determined and regulated by law. Jesus told us to occupy until he returns. Instead of sitting back on our laurels while polishing our halos and waiting for our trip to heaven, we need to engage in battle with the enemy forces in the political/public policy arena. The political arena is where the major battles are being waged because the Secular Humanists have infiltrated all levels of government. Again, government is now in control of almost every area of our lives. The only way godly principles can be inserted into public policy is if Christians take these principles and values with them into the midst of the battle. Fighting is part of occupying, wouldn't you agree?

The stakes are high. We risk personal and national judgment for our action and inaction. Each of us must decide what we are going to do.

We can all be involved by communicating with our elected officials at all levels of government. First we must be informed of what is happening around us. The Family Research Council, Focus on the Family Action, and American Family Association are three good places to get important information. People can sign up to have daily briefs sent directly to their computers. Then in church we can start public policy awareness groups where we discuss issues and legislation with other people, thus getting more people involved and informed. There is strength in numbers.

So instead of being apathetic and anxious, we become informed and engaged, and real soldiers in the cultural war that is raging around us. It's time to get past just winning little skirmishes and on to the major battles like defeating abortion and same-sex marriage. If we have the will to fight, we can do it. Beyond will, we must be obedient to occupy until Christ returns. It is our Christian duty. How will we respond? To anyone willing to hear....
