The 2008 election and the Church
By Madeline Crabb
Is the Christian community splintered and confused over the 2008 presidential race? This is what has been reported by mainline media sources ever since the Values Voters Summit in Washington, DC, which was held in late October. Indeed, when no consensus is shown by the so-called Christian leaders across America; these leaders use words like electability more often than words like character and principle; and when seemingly the godliest man on the ticket gets little support from Christian leaders, there is reason for concern.
Multitudes seem caught up by Hillary Hysteria. This is understandable for media elites who are in love with the Democratic Party, and enamored with "Bill and Hill." Republicans and Conservatives are once again in a defensive mode because of their fear of losing to the Clinton machine. (Yes, there are reasons to be afraid.) But for the Church, the community of faith in God, Hillary Hysteria makes little sense.
When I speak about the Church, I am referring to the Judeo-Christian community that comprises 80% of America's population. A 20% minority has been trying to silence the Church for over 50 years. It is the Judeo-Christian community that is responsible for founding this great nation, despite what revisionist historians are trying to teach today's youth.
If only the 20% could burn all those nasty documents like the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, or all the other books, articles, and letters written by our Founding Fathers and stored at the National Archives, in museums, and in homes around this nation. If only the 20% could make the 80% Christian population irrelevant, then they could have their way with the direction of our society. The problem is that the 80% Christian population is becoming irrelevant, an irrelevancy we're partially responsible for.
Because the Church is becoming irrelevant, we are losing our power to affect society and culture. Furthermore, because government affects almost everything in today's society, the Church's lack of informed participation in politics, even in voting, affects the negative course our society has traveled for generations. So, while the 2008 election entails getting a new president, it is more about the future of our nation. The election is not about Rudy and Hillary, it's about the Church!
The Church needs to awaken, arise, and act in restoring one nation under God. Because of our own slumber or complacency, Christians now wring their hands in worry about having the Clintons in the White House for another eight years. In fact, Christians will be used to solidify God's plans for America's future. The Bible says that if God's people, who are called by his name, will humble themselves, pray, seek his face, and turn from their wicked ways, he will then hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
God is calling the Church, 80% of the population, to stop being prideful, to pray, to do his will, and to repent of our sins. Only when we do these things will God even hear us. Can you imagine what will happen if we don't do these things? This is serious business.
The truth is that America has forsaken God. Our future depends on whether we continue to forsake him, or decide to honor him — not on Rudy or Hillary. We'll further discuss our choices in next week's column. Until then, I pray we begin to seek God while he can still be found. To anyone willing to hear..
