The GOP at the crossroads
By Paul Craft
I have to admit upfront that I am a one issue GOP supporter. We will not see it reported on the national or local news, but abortion on demand is the main issue of are time. Thankfully, there was a recent report that abortions overall have dropped. This is good news but the number of abortions in America is still staggering.
Sorry but I am always skeptical of these kind of reports. My concern is supporters of the unborn might take down their guard. We have to be vigilant; we have to fight this great fight on a daily basis. The fight has now carried to the Republican Party. The next GOP candidate has to be a proven supporter of the unborn. The outcome could be catastrophic.
The next President might have the opportunity to appoint three Supreme Court Justices.
It appears the GOP establishment is beginning to place their support behind Mitt Romney. This appears to me as strategic mistake. Mr. Romney has stated on a number occasions that he is now pro-life. My feeling is that you have a heart for the unborn or you do not. Both Mr. and Mrs. Romney have been active participants in America's house of death or what is called Planned Parenthood. My concern is when a President Romney has to pick the next Supreme Court Justice, will he really be concerned enough about the unborn in the selection process?
You can bet your bottom dollar if either Senator Clinton or Obama is elected President they will nominate activist justices that support abortion on demand. My great worry is that Romney's heart for the unborn is not much different than Clinton or Obama.
It appears that there are only three GOP candidates that have a consistent record in support of the unborn. McCain, Thompson, and Huckabee have never wavered on their support for the unborn. If my sources are correct Thompson is ready to get out of the campaign and put his support behind McCain.
It appears to me a ticket with McCain/Thompson would give the GOP the best chance at beating the Democrats. With probably only two votes away from overturning the crime of the century — Roe vs. Wade — the GOP Party is at the crossroads.
