Missed opportunity for Katie Couric
By Paul Craft

I get most of my news from the internet and the cable news networks. I know it is a waste of time to watch the network news channels. The anchors do not hide their bias against those voices on the right. I can understand the nightly network anchors right to have their own political opinions but they are in a position that requires them to be fair and balanced. In most cases they are nothing but political hacks who are willfully biased in favor of the Democratic Party.

What really puzzles me is if I were in their position my first goal would be to increase my audience as much as possible. I would try to report the news and leave my political leanings at home. We all know that are news has dramatically changed for the worse. The unbiased professional anchors of the past are gone?

My interest in listening to the comments from Sarah Palin led me to turn on the CBS Nightly News with Katie Couric who was interviewing Gov. Palin. I expected Couric to be an attack dog for the Democrats as opposed to giving Gov. Palin a fair shake. Unfortunately I was right. You could tell from the very beginning that Couric's mission was to get Gov. Palin to trip up. If Couric had to smile it would have killed her. It appeared to this writer that Couric's game plan was to get Gov. Palin to acknowledge that we were on the verge of another Great Depression. Gov. Palin NEVER acknowledged or mentioned that we were headed for a Great Depression. It was Couric who asked Gov. Palin if the bailout plan was not passed was there a chance for another Great Depression. Gov. Palin never said yes but instead stressed how important it was to pass the bailout plan that Congress was working on. You can watch the interview for yourself here.

Like the rest of the left-wing hacks Couric made a story out of nothing. On the same newscast she interviewed John McCain. Couric ask Senator McCain if it was wise for Gov. Palin to be mentioning the Great Depression. As we know it was Couric not Gov. Palin who used the phrase The Great Depression. Sad but true.

Needless to say Couric failed to change my opinion about her. If I was watching can you imagine how many new viewers were tuned in to see the interview? If Couric would have been fairer she had a great opportunity to win me over and the other new viewers who tuned in. It is hard for me to understand why a person in Couric's position would not do everything possible to increase her audience instead of turning off those viewers who like Gov. Palin. If anybody needs to increase their viewership, it is Katie Couric.
