Congress v. the people of the USA; those old "aristocratic colours" on Cinco de Mayo
By Curtis Dahlgren

"The surface of American society is covered with a layer of democratic paint, but from time to time one can see the old aristocratic colours breaking through." — Alexis de Tocqueville

"The truth is the mortal enemy of the lie." — Joseph Goebbels (quoted by Rush Limbaugh)

"Winning isn't everything; evidently Public Relations is." — CD

THE DEATH OF TRADITIONAL CONSERVATISM HAS BEEN GREATLY EXAGGERATED. It is simply ignored by the "mainstream" media and the "mainstream" Republicans-in-name-only. I spared myself the pain of watching either party's "presidential debates" recently. I haven't ruled out the chances of a good man winning next year's election yet, but I'm afraid that as of now the major Republican candidates haven't gotten the message from the people.

I recently received a copy of a letter to Senator Brownback from one of his constituents:

    Dear Senator Brownback,

I implore you to carefully review the testimony of Rosemary Jenks, Director of Government Relations for NumbersUSA, that she made before Rep. Lofgren's House immigration subcommittee. She makes a convincing case against the many "comprehensive" immigration proposals circulating around Capitol Hill and provides a simple and painfully obvious alternative to those schemes.

Jenks' case against "comprehensive" immigration legislation is very simple:

    (1) The 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) is universally accepted as AN AMNESTY.

    (2) The IRCA amnesty and subsequent amnesties immediately led to ACCELERATED illegal immigration, causing the current crisis we have today.

    (3) The "comprehensive" immigration proposals currently under consideration such as the Flake / Gutierrez bill and the White House proposal follow the SAME OUTLINE as the 1986 amnesty.

Therefore, ANY PLAN that rewards illegal aliens with jobs and legal status is tantamount to an amnesty wolf wrapped in "comprehensive" sheep's clothing.

THIS LOGIC HAS NOT ESCAPED THE AMERICAN PUBLIC. As Jenks states in her testimony, the American public opposed amnesty in 1986 and we oppose it (even more so) today. The straw-man argument that we must choose amnesty because we "can't round up 12 million people" doesn't stand up under scrutiny because increased enforcement has been shown TO work when applied. Furthermore, the American public rejects the "out-of-shadows" argument because illegal aliens are clearly not in the shadows as they march in the streets, work their jobs and wave their flags.

What Jenks' testimony sadly confirms is that the American public IS NOT BEING LISTENED TO BY ITS ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES. In fact, YOU have a very poor record on amnesty and immigration according to www.congressgrades.com. I sincerely hope that your grade reflects a lack of understanding of history rather than a stubborn denial.

As I said in my previous fax to you, "America is becoming a slum because our leaders are not doing their job to protect the country. What good is the "Patriot Act" when the borders are wide open to anybody who wants to enter the country?? No wonder our elderly are living in poverty, our children's educations are going to the dogs, crime is on the increase. It's because our so-called "leaders" live in gated communities where these deplorable conditions aren't a problem — TO THEM!

I doubt you shop Wal-Mart where it's necessary to watch your step when exiting your car for fear of stepping in a soiled diaper that some illegal dropped there. I doubt your children/grandchildren attend public schools. It's not your problem when illegals drive our streets and highways without proper training and disregard the laws for insurance. They can't even read the signs! If YOUR family were at risk, or it were YOUR daughter who was killed in an automobile accident such as the one in Virginia Beach, VA, I have no doubt you would see that immigration laws were enforced and illegals were promptly deported!

This is not an "immigration" problem — it's an INVASION problem!!" It's obvious, sir, according to your grade, that this doesn't appear to be YOUR problem. You can change this by doing your homework and putting yourself in the shoes of those who pay your salary, start REALLY representing us, and vote the AMERICAN WAY! You can begin by standing for the Constitution and compose a bill to repeal NAFTA and GATT, and the infamous highway that will send MILLIONS more UNWANTED people into our beloved country.

    Respectfully,
    P.S.
A few years ago, I wrote to encourage you to run for President, but I would NEVER vote for you now with the sorry record you have on border and immigration policy.

The presidential race this year will be about the BORDER INVASION our elected leaders HAVE ALLOWED. Ignoring us will not be favorable for those who continue to pass laws designed to DESTROY our way of life. We are FED UP!!

[P.S. (CD) I spent some time in San Diego county in 1989, not that long after the Simpson-Mizzoli act was passed and so I'm not unfamiliar with the conditions out there. A friend of mine had married a girl from northern California and he wanted to do landscape and horticulture work in southern California, but he was advised right away that he would face stiff competition from the "day workers" who stood along the roads waiting for employers to come along. The warning was well-founded. He had to go into another line of work.

As many have already pointed out, it's not that the illegal invaders do "work that Americans won't do"; Americans simply prefer to be paid over the table, not under it. If the issue is that "we need more workers," tell that to the African-Americans of South L.A. who get undercut by the illegals and passed over by employers. But don't tell it to me.

Hillary Rodham Clinton claims that she baby-sat for migrant workers so the "older children" could go and work in the fields (around Park Ridge?). I wonder if she wants a little cheese with that whine?

Just to show where I'm coming from, I have picked cucumbers by hand (on my father's farm), and when I was five years old, I didn't have a "baby sitter," I WAS a farm laborer.

I saw Jackie Robinson play, and the Rockford Peaches, and while some social changes were "progress," not all of them have turned out to be. When middle school graduates know how to have babies, and do so, but can't read their diplomas because of time wasted by their teachers catching "immigrants" up on two languages, something is rotten in Denmark and Rancho Santa Fe.

The bottom line is that allowing border-crossers to go to the head of the class, and the head of the line for "legalization," that is simply discrimination. It's crass discrimination against prospective U.S. citizens who apply from your family's nation-of-origin, and mine and others. If it quacks like discrimination it's discrimination — no matter what focus group polled label you want to put on it. We've gone from "migrants" to "undocumented workers" to "documented" by phony consular "cards" to "foreign nationals" (the term for those killed in traffic accidents before they make it to a consular office or other place of "refuge").

After my parents died, I celebrated several all-American Thanksgiving Day dinners with a family of Mexican origin. My brother's offspring is married to an Hispanic descended from a South American family, so I have grand-nieces who share their blood heritage and my own. You can't pigeon-hole this guy as a xenophobe.

But as my Kansan pen pal says, we are FED UP with the aristocrats in Congress and their thin veneer of "democratic" paint ("comprehensive" scams and whams). If we keep importing third-class citizens and don't seal the border, we'll not only be swimming with red ink, we'll drive off the bridge and DROWN in it!

More than one politician has been getting an "earful" from Hawkeye voters of late. In fact, Senator Brownback might now be more aptly named Senator Brownpants or Wetpants.]

PPS: If "we need workers" to pay the Social Security bill, someone should have thought of that before Roe v. Wade legalized "voluntary interruption of pregnancy" (which "terminated" 50 million Americans).

PPPS: Since liberals are so much more competent at solving imaginary problems than REAL ones, the latest news from Canada is that Bigfoot may be put on the protected species list.

Speaking of scams (such as global "warming"), I just saw snow in a roadside ditch in Michigan yesterday on the 4th of May, 2007.

Not to change the subject BUT, so help us God, "The truth is the mortal enemy of the lie."

No matter what is really happening on the Tigris and Euphrates, we know what's happening on the Rio Grande, and the American people care deeply about "national security" in the case of the latter.
