Liberals party like it's 1984
By Tim Dunkin

I don't think I'll surprise anyone when I say that liberals lie. In fact, they lie a lot. They lie all the time. And nobody on their side lies more, or at least more successfully, than the left-wing national media outlets. This is a large part of what makes the left wing, and especially the "mainstream" media, so dangerous to the health and safety of this country.

Now, there is lying, and then there is lying. People lie for all sorts of reasons. They want to make themselves look better, or they want to try to keep from getting into some kind of trouble, or maybe they want to get something from somebody else. But the reasons for why the left-wing media and their enablers in the liberal la-la land portion of our population lie are far more sinister. For them, it's about power and control, and lying to We the People is their way of establishing control over our politics and society.

I'm assuming that most readers will be familiar with George Orwell's dystopic novel 1984. The chances are very good that you had to read it in a literature class at some point during your high school or junior high experience. So most readers will recall one of the central themes of the totalitarian society presented in that book, which was the way things like "facts" and "truth" were completely, totally, ineluctably malleable. We all remember Winston Smith (the story's protagonist) working in the government propaganda workshop (the Ministry of Truth), changing production reports to reflect the happy news that chocolate rations for the citizens would be raised from 30 grams a week to 20. Every aspect of history, every aspect of current events, could be completely changed at will to reflect any new reality that the Party wished to present. Persons who fell out of the Party's favor could be made into "unpersons," completely expunged from all records. Even something as momentous as a perpetual war against one neighbor could be changed to say that the war had always been against another neighbor. Oceania's Party was even creating an entirely new language for its people called Newspeak – one in which "ungood" ideas could – literally – not even be expressed, for there would not even be the words available to do so. The Party completely controlled thought by completely controlling expression in all its forms.

If they could, the left-wing news media and the liberals would establish this same sort of control over the flow of information in America. I've discussed previously how the left wing very definitely qualifies as a "knowledge control cult." We see the Left create completely false narratives out of whole cloth all the time. The Left would love nothing more than to be able to stop We the People from having crimethinks, ever.

Of course, they aren't able to do this yet, due to the prevalence of alternative news sources and other internet resources. However, the media do the best they can in an imperfect world where the little people still have freedom of speech.

One of the most recent and obvious examples of this is the coverage surrounding the "Planned Parenthood" shooter in Colorado Springs last week. The media and the Left believed they had the perfect vehicle to promote the narrative of "radical right wing terrorists driven to attack Planned Parenthood because of hateful and violent rhetoric" when Robert Lewis Dear shot and killed several people, including one police officer, while holed up in a building housing a Planned Parenthood clinic.

Yet, it's not at all apparent that Dear was actually targeting the Planned Parenthood clinic itself. The primary evidence for this would be the fact that (as Planned Parenthood representatives themselves admitted) no Planned Parenthood staff or "customers" were killed. That's awfully strange if you really had a heavily armed psycho targeting the facility and who was inside it where he could freely move around and shoot people at will. Further, there are the reports that initially came out, especially from regional and local media in Colorado and Utah, which indicated that Dear had been attempting to rob the nearby Chase Bank, flubbed it, and sought refuge in the Planned Parenthood building after fleeing the bank. Despite hearing definite reports in the media that police officials had said that Dear made a comment about "no more baby parts" while being taken into custody, we later found out that the police wouldn't actually confirm that.

And then there's the information we have about Robert Dear himself – which the media have been strangely silent about. Having been told that Robert Dear was some right-wing, Operation Rescue-type "pro-life zealot," it surely comes as a surprise to many to find out that he was actually a politically unaffiliated, cannabis-promoting "pot tourist" (thanks for that, liberals!) who listed himself as a woman in his voter registration and other official documents. In other words, Ted Cruz was pretty much on target in describing him as a transgendered pothead.

And now we find out that the police in the case are sealing the warrants and other information about the case. It's almost like they were told by their political masters in Colorado (headed by Democrat Governor Hickenlooper, remember) to stop releasing information because the information would damage the "Planned Parenthood as victim of right-wing terrorism" narrative they were trying to build.

Yet, the media had a field day pushing this narrative, and the alt-Left wackadoodles at Slate, Salon, and other outlets got their jollies trying to broaden it out into a more generalized "white male Christian gun owners are the REAL terrorists" theme. They were still doing so when Syed Farook Rizwan and Tashfeen Malik – who were decidedly not white, not Christian, and one of whom was not male – committed a bona fide, pre-meditated act of Islamic terrorism in San Bernardino, California.

The media initially tried to get around identifying this as Islamic terrorism. But it's hard to make the case that it wasn't when one of them pledged allegiance to ISIS, the other was known to be a "very religious" Muslim, and they made pipe bombs that apparently come from an al-Qaeda training manual. But that hasn't stopped the news outlets from trying to shift the focus away from "crazy Muslims who shoot people" and toward "the need for more gun control." Because California's already-stringent gun control laws obviously worked so well at stopping these Islamofascists from shooting up a Christmas party and killing 14 people. Instead of gun control, perhaps it's time we started thinking about Muslim control.

We can't be too surprised by all this, however. It simply follows the Left's playbook when it comes to generating and perpetuating media narratives.

They did it with Michael Brown's suicide-by-cop in Ferguson. You had a thuggish criminal rob a liquor store and then assault a police officer while trying to take his gun away – and the thug ends up being canonized by the fruitcakes on the Left. In fact, the whole idiotic "Black Lives Matter" movement sprung forth from this incident, generating the narrative that the police in America are hopelessly racist and are simply driving around looking for young black men to shoot. As it turns out – it fell to alternative media sources to point out that the BLM "police brutality" narrative is actually a steaming load of horse manure.

The Left has pushed the narrative that there is a "rape epidemic" on college campuses, using it to justify ever more heavy-handed applications of feminist propaganda and "sensitivity awareness courses" that primarily target male students and cast them – unfairly – as potential rapists and horrible people in general. They use bogus stories like the Duke lacrosse team story and the fake Rolling Stone story about a brutal rape of a freshman named "Jackie" at UVA (which the magazine later retracted) to perpetuate this narrative. Yet, as it turns out, young women are actually slightly safer on a college campus than they are off of one.

The media attacked Donald Trump for saying that he saw thousands of Muslims in New Jersey celebrating the 9-11 attacks. As it turned out, there really WERE "swarms of Muslims" celebrating the attacks that day, as CBS had reported back then. This confirmed what Mr. Trump, as well as many, many other Americans (including myself) saw that day, either with our own eyes, or on the news. The media responded to all of this, predictably, by trying to disappear those reports from 14 years ago down the memory hole.

Ted Cruz was attacked recently for saying that "the overwhelming majority of violent criminals are Democrats." Indeed, the top-notch fact-checkers over at the Washington Post gave Cruz's comment a "four Pinocchio" rating. Yet, these "fact-checkers" completely failed to explain from the actual study why an ex-con who registers with a political party (which they overwhelming do register as Democrats) would not have had the same political leanings while in prison. In point of fact, Cruz is right, and violent criminals DO lean heavily Democrat. One wonders if the WashPo fact-checkers have anything to say about chocolate rations.

It's bad enough that the media lie to us so blatantly in their transparent attempts to bolster these and other left-wing narratives. It's even worse that rank-and-file left-wingers and "progressives" and others on that side of the aisle knowingly go along with it all, even though they know that just about everything the Left says and claims is pure malarkey. They KNOW it's nonsense, yet perpetuate it anywise because to them, "the narrative" and gaining the power they desire is more important than truth. In this way, they are exactly the same as the inner Party members who controlled the realm of Oceania in 1984. They are completely willing to make one set of arguments one day on one issue, and then make completely opposite, mutually contradictory arguments the next, should the prevailing left-wing plotline require it. They are perfectly fine with smearing opponents as "pro-rape" for questioning the bogus "rape epidemic" story. It is stock in trade to scream about "racism" when someone points out to them uncomfortable facts about race, crime, and the police. They don't mind destroying a reputation or three, so long as they move another inch toward their "progressive" utopia which they are trying to build.

So what do we do about these people? Frankly, the answer is this – find a backbone and stand up to them. Too many people have refused to speak the truth for too long because they're afraid some left-wing yahoo will call them a "racist" or "homophobic" or whatever else. It's time for people to stop caring what the Left says about them. Fight back. Drag the left-wingers out of their safe spaces and shame them with facts and reason for all the world to see. Say the things that they hate to hear. Donald Trump does this, and he is well-nigh untouchable. Truth is its own shield, and if you are willing to wield it, the power of left-wing name-calling will be blunted and rendered ineffective. "We don't scare and we don't care" should be our watchwords. It's time to stop letting the Left build its narratives without opposition. They will crumble and they will tumble once they meet effective opposition, so give it to them now while we still have the freedom and the outlets to do so.
