Obama's reparations drivel ignores the biggest reparation of all
By Gabriel Garnica
If the liberal media had its way, Barack Obama would have his feet propped on the Oval Office desk already, wondering how that room ever reached its historical significance without him. Thankfully, this nation still, somehow, operates somewhat independently of the media's gleeful clutches. There is a small thing called an election to be held, and those who truly love this country and what made it great can breathe and hope a while longer.
Criticizing Barack Obama is both easy and difficult, for he has so many holes in his repertoire that it is tough to focus on just one, but I will try.
Mr. Abortion's Surprising Blindness
It is common knowledge that Barack Obama is the Mr. Abortion of The Democratic Party http://www.onenewsnow.com/Election2008/Default.aspx?id=178026 which is saying a lot considering that party never met a fetus it did not mind aborting.
What is most glaring, however, is the shocking contradiction between what Obama should represent and what he, in fact, does.
Let us begin with the fact that abortion is institutionalized genocide and quite comparable, from a moral standpoint, to slavery. Both evils seek to ignore the humanity of a target class out of a selfish, arrogant and patronizing convenience. Both evils deny that class the right to live, one physically and the other symbolically because to live without freedom and dignity is not to live at all.
One would think that Obama, of all people, would recognize the inconsistency of being African-American and supporting abortion. After all, abortion is a greater threat to African-Americans than the KKK ever was. http://www.illinoisrighttolife.org/AbortionImpact.htm
One would think that Obama, who loves to speak of reparations for past racial injustice and cruelty to human beings, would recognize and admit that we have not even begun to make reparations for the most vile and detestable injustice and cruelty ever inflicted to any human beings, much less ones not even given the opportunity to begin lives so full of potential and promise.
Debts Paid and Unpaid
I completely agree with Ambassador Keyes' eloquent and perceptive argument that this country's reparations for slavery were already paid in the blood spilled on the battlefields of the Civil War. http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/gaynor/080730 In a sense, that blood washed away the original sin of slavery and provided us with the continuing opportunity to forge a better nation, a land where inequalities, divisions and double-standards based on what group a human being belongs to would someday end.
If the debt of past injustice and evil based on race has already been paid in blood, it is only so because this nation came to recognize and admit that slavery, which precipitated that blood, was an evil enterprise born of economic convenience, selective and twisted moral rationalization and patronizing arrogance and elitism.
While the debt of present injustice and evil based on being an unwanted, unborn child has not been paid despite the blood being spilled on a daily basis in abortion mills, it is so because this nation refuses to likewise recognize and admit that abortion, which causes that blood, is likewise an evil enterprise born of economic convenience, selective and twisted moral rationalization and patronizing arrogance and elitism.
True to form, Senator Obama waxes poetic about the wrong poem. True, we must never cease fighting for greater racial equality in a country which has a long way to go to reach Martin Luther King's dream. However, we have already paid the reparation for the evil of slavery and racial intolerance and injustice. That bill has been paid in the blood of heroes; we only need to keep reaching for higher goals. The blood spilled in that terrible war demands our commitment to never stop seeking the kind of society Dr. King dreamed about.
Rather than spewing about debts paid, Senator Obama should speak about and demand that the unpaid debt owed through abortion be paid but, alas, he does not even admit that debt exists. Rather, and shockingly, he proudly and clearly stands on the side that opposes life, that opposes dignity and that stubbornly and arrogantly ignores the cries of the voiceless and weak.
Conclusion
Of all the things that Barack Obama stands for, the most glaring is abortion. That is because, whether his party wants to admit it or not, abortion still is and will always be a threshold issue. http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/hughes/080730
Here we have a man who claims to have felt the sting of injustice, mistreatment and disrespect because of who he was advocating, defending and justifying the murder of a class of human beings simply because of who they are. Here we have a man from a community devastated by an evil who proudly waves his record in support of that evil as if a badge of honor.
Above all, here we have a man who claims to speak for the powerless, the weak and the voiceless in our society doing all that he can to silence the cries of the most powerless, the most weak and most voiceless this society can offer.
Do not look for any sense from Barack Obama, for if he can drop the ball on abortion, he never had possession of the ball at all.
