Many Democrats just have to help the terrorists!
By Michael Gaynor

Many Democrats (both in political office and in the media) fervently believe that is in their political interest to persuade a majority of the American people that America's President is a war monger and a liar, that deposing Saddam Hussein and liberating Iraq was a mistake (because Saddam was not moments away from using weapons of mass destruction against America and perhaps shipped weapons of mass destruction to Syria before America took long and much needed military action to enforce a plethora of United Nations resolutions before the economic sanctions policy completely collapsed), that it is sheer coincidence that the terrorists have not successfully attacked the American homeland since September 11, 2001, that Iraq having become the central front in the War on Terror is not a blessing for America, and that the savage terrorists and insurgents in Iraq are unbeatable.

They further believe that they can, and should, successfully pose as patriots and protectors of the Constitution while undermining America in the War on Terror forced upon America by the terrorists, and as supporters of America's troops by complaining that the number of American casualties (still much less that the number of innocent people killed in a few minutes on September 11, 2001) means it was a mistake to take on (and swiftly take out) Saddam Hussein.

They are wrong in all respects.

Worse, they are assiduously working to make it appear that they are right, by deliberately trying to deceive and focusing on isolated unfortunate incidents and inevitably increasing casualties instead of the total picture, even though America is at war, instead of uniting behind America's duly elected (and re-elected) Republican Commander-in-Chief, as Republicans united behind the Democrat Commanders-in-Chief during World War II (even though FDR apparently did not anticipate the attack on Pearl Harbor and hindsight shows that there was plenty that America could have done better in preparing for, fighting and winning World War II).

The Iraqi election was an enormous success, with about 70% of the eligible voters voting and violence sporadic and minimal. Despite the deplorable Dems.

Before the election, Democrat leaders did their worst to undermine the cause of bringing peace and democracy to Iraq and thereby setting an example in a part of the world where democracy would be a welcome blessing.

Democrat Chairman Dean said before the Iraqi election that the war in Iraq is unwinnable. If his Republican equivalent had said such a thing during World War II, he would have been ousted promptly from his high office if he did not resign immediately.

Nasty Nancy Pelosi, the Dems' House Leader (Minority Leader thanks be to God), trotted out Congressman John Murtha to do a flip flop and call for "redeployment beyond the horizon." Translation: pulling out America's troops before their job is finished, and thereby jeopardizing all they have accomplished and trivializing all they have sacrificed.

House Republicans quickly and wisely forced a vote on immediate withdrawal and House Dems flinched. Only three of them voted for cutting and running. With more than 400 House members voting NOT to do so, and President Bush delivering a series of four powerful addresses explaining the good that had been accomplished and the need to persevere to secure victory, the Iraqis were reassured instead of terrified and so the December 15, 2005, election was a resounding success. See Marie Jon's Historical Milestone For Iraq Comes True — Winning against the odds, joyously celebrating the exciting election success in advance and lauding America's awesome troops and the brave Iraqis for standing up to the savage terrorists and insurgents: "God bless American forces and all coalition troops alongside the brave hearts of the Iraqi people. A rebirth of a country is a celebration."

Amen. A hard-earned celebration in Iraq, and cause for celebration in America and other Coalition countries, by all people who value freedom more than existence under tyranny.

Marie Jon' helpfully identified America's biggest domestic problem — "[t]he leftists constantly use contentious words as terrorists listen....and made it more difficult, as they [the leftists] try to weaken America's resolve for their own political gain" when "[t]otal strength is needed to fight a war on terror."

And even stated the obvious for the oblivious:

"We the people should resent the Democrats for their meddling politicking when we have our troops in harm's way.

"Here we stand on the threshold of a remarkable historical day, yet the far left Democrats have lost their way, and can't find one good positive word to say. They are dismal an[d] continuously bleak."

Worse, they have bet on the enemy.

Notwithstanding that, as President Bush put it, America has inspired something glorious in Iraq: "It's a remarkable transformation for a country that has virtually no experience with democracy, and which is struggling to overcome the legacy of one of the worst tyrannies the world has known. And Iraqis achieved all this while determined enemies use violence and destruction to stop the progress. There's still a lot of difficult work to be done in Iraq, but thanks to the courage of the Iraqi people, the year 2005 will be recorded as a turning point in the history of Iraq, the history of the Middle East, and the history of freedom."

So, in the face of the fabulous election success, what do the leftist Senate Dems do?

Why filibuster to block the legislation that would make permanent fourteen important provisions of the aptly named Patriot Act that the House had approved, 251 to 174, with 44 decent Dems joining 207 respectable Republicans.

If the terrorists can't really win in Iraq, let's make it easier for them to attack the American homeland!

A majority of the Senators voted to end the filibuster, but more than 40 Senators preferred not to do so. Conveniently forgetting that the Constitution is not a suicide pact, they prefer, for example, to assure Americans that their library records will not be accessed without judicial approval, even though September 11, 2001 showed that time can be critical.

Next, unless it seems futile, they will filibuster the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor as an associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, because they prefer a judicial activist who will "protect" secular extremists from religion, personally prefer abortion on demand (and therefore will not let the states regulate abortion, as the Constitution intended), and will tolerate drug dealers using children as "mules" immune from strip searching.
