Republican Democrats . . . help to keep filibuster alive and kicking
By Kaye Grogan
Once again the Republicans proved what cowards they are, as they caved into the pretentious filibuster resolution. At face value, the resolution appears to make negotiators look like heroes, but the underlying tones are what really counts. When will the Republicans realize that everything to the Democrats is "extraordinary circumstances" when it comes to conservative judges being scrutinized by liberal Democrats? And once again Republicans you cried wolf — and caved-in to the Democratic wheeling and dealing machine.
Yes, I know that Senator John McCain is a Republican, and he helped to formulate the so-called neutral ground pact with the Democrats, but I see John McCain as a middle-of-the-road Democrat, who seizes every opportunity to get into the limelight posing as a Republican. Remember red states refuse to elect Democrats, so what other alternative is there, but to be an undercover Democrat stealing the Republicans' thunder?
Wait a minute! ...did I say stealing the Republicans' thunder? What thunder?
The definition of a filibuster: prolonged speaking which obstructs progress in a legislative assembly. Going one step further: the definition of obstructionist: be in the way of, block, prevent or hinder.
Before anyone dares to "uncork" the champagne bottles claiming victory — you are going to have to face your constituents. In other words, you've got a lot of explaining to do. I am positive if the roles were reversed, and the Democrats held the majority in all three branches of government, Mount Rushmore would dissolve before they would have caved-in to Republicans with the same sugar-coated deal. When liberal Lanny Davis says the agreement reached to confirm only three of President Bush's nominated judges benefitted the American people the most — a red flag should appear pronto!
Just wait until it's time to confirm judges for the U.S. Supreme Court. There will be so many extraordinary circumstances climbing out-of-the-woodwork, it will be obvious what is really going on behind the scenes — when the other remaining conservative nominations offered to the "Judiciary Committee" by President Bush emerge for confirmation. You know what they say about shows being delayed: "get out your lawn chairs" — well, in this case, get out your "extraordinary circumstances" list.
Hmm . . . let's go over the "extremist" list that probably looks similar to the one compiled by Democrats, which pretty much sums up what they view as "extraordinary circumstances" giving them the right to revive their filibuster tactics if the nominated judges ane not left-wingers sent up for confirmation by President Bush. (1) Confirming a pro-life judge is a definite no-no! (2) Don't confirm a judge who views same-sex marriage as unacceptable. (3) Scratch any judge from an up or down vote in the senate, who won't legislate their own laws from the bench to "overthrow" the will of the majority of the people in the states. (4) Don't confirm judges who rely on the American Constitution to interpret the laws correctly. (5) Confirm only judges who meet the criteria of the Democrats' special interest groups.
On second thought — to make a long list short — just list "conservative" judges. This should cover all of the extreme extraordinary circumstances in just two words. Why complicate matters?
As an "independent" voter . . . I would never officially join a political party. Both parties are too wishy-washy to suit me. I cringe to think what trade-offs are really taking place behind closed doors to reach a semi-agreement between the wheelers and dealers, representing both political sides of the aisles.
In my opinion, the Republicans who are crossing over to band with the Democrats should stay over on that side of the aisle. Common sense (which many politicians seem to be lacking) — should reveal that a true Republican cannot embrace opposing views of the Republican Party and expect to be credible as a Republican, and vice-versa. This is why I remain "uncommitted" to either party, because they both leave a lot to be desired, when push comes to shove or getting on one side of the fence and staying there.
If you see a bunch of politicians walking around bowlegged — just chalk it up as too much time spent "straddling" fences.
The best way to deal with politicians, filibustering, and special interests groups in Washington, D.C., is to put a referendum on a national ballot to vote to impose term limits. This is the only way to restrict career politicians, and the buyout of our government by all the moneybags and moneychangers monitoring governmental activity like "buzzards" to ensure their agenda takes precedence over all the other self-promoting agendas.
Psst....Republicans listen up! There is a reason you were elected as the majority in the three branches of government. Do you need a refresher course to remind you that you have the upper hand on the Democrats? How many times do you have to be run over by a freight train before you realize you've been flattened out? You always wave the "white" flag and back down every time you have the chance to clean up corruption.
The law of average is stacked against you... to always be in the majority — so you had better strike while the iron is hot!
And that's just my opinion!
