Wanted: "A more productive Congress"
By Kaye Grogan
Here lately it is downright painful to read or hear about the results of how our congressional members are voting on key issues in the house and senate chambers. I would rather be reading a book on how to grow a beautiful lawn.
Most congressional members would barely maintain a D average, if they were graded on how effective they are on a monthly report card in how they govern. Now if they were graded on how to misappropriate funds — they would get an A. Frankly, our tax dollars are clearly being distributed to areas and programs, that are not beneficial to most Americans, while the minimum wage hovers around the poverty level.
You might be surprised to learn there are still many people who are paid the hourly minimum wage of $5.15. This averages out to a mere $10, 712 annually. I don't know if a "homeless" person could live off of this paltry amount, much less a family. According to a recent show hosted by Oprah Winfrey, at least 30 million people are either living on or beneath the poverty level. Now that figure may not sound too overwhelming considering there are close to 300 million (legal) people in America — unless you're one of the 30 million folks who struggle to make ends meet between paydays. Just watch the old horse change colors . . . then!
The persistent opposition to raise the minimum wage just helps to prove my point on how unproductive our illustrious government is. Yet they don't mind voting themselves a raise at every opportunity. I guess it does take a lot of money for them to dress nice.
During the last couple of months congress has revealed what they are really made of. After the vote on the flag amendment, keeping "under God" in the pledge, same-sex marriage, and the illegal immigration issue failed the required number of votes, if nothing else productive came out of closely watching these wafflers: it showed everyone patriotic, people of faith, those who believe in traditional marriage, and those in favor of border control — just how useless the government can be when it comes to supporting the core values of America. In other words, they are showing their true colors and are on a downhill roll.
If you think the country needs more illegal immigrants, more godlessness, legalized same-sex marriages, and more disrespect for the American flag — then pull those old levers for the compromising party that is aiding and abetting immorality in America.
Several reports are indicating polls are surfacing where the Democrats are (supposedly) the favored party to vote for in the next election by the majority of the voters. If the liberal posters would stop manipulating and conducting "bogus" polls — they wouldn't be so astonished on election day when they have to read em' and weep over the results.
Poor Senator Joe Lieberman is now a member of the "blue dogs" in the government. You know the dogs who dare to think for themselves once in awhile? The ones who get the cold shoulder and threat of being replaced by more liberal "lead me by the nose" candidates, if they don't obey their Democratic masters. But Lieberman has nothing to worry about with former President Bill Clinton going to bat for his reelection. Just don't hold your breath Senator — is the best advice I can offer you.
According to Senator Hillary Clinton you don't rile up the conservatives during or before an election — that all comes later. I guess people like Ms. Clinton is assuming that the voters are so naive no one is paying any attention to how they are casting their votes on the hot-button issues. Wrong!
Next on the agenda in congress is probably going to be the "fair" tax bill. Well, since the IRS is having so much fun intimidating people and congress can't seem to keep their hands out of the wallets and purses of the American people, don't hold your breath hoping this bill is going to surface above water. The IRS is practically turning somersaults as they bully churches by sending out intimidating advisories that they are not supposed to endorse political candidates or they risk losing their tax-exempt status — so don't look for them to go away anytime soon.
It is apparent we need a real shake-up in Washington, D.C. — and the sooner the better.
As for me and my house — we're voting for new blood in November . . . even if we have to write-in a candidate.
And that's just my opinion!
