Ward Churchill's chickens coming home to roost!
By Doug Hagin
Oh, that Ward Churchill has really made quite the name for himself of late hasn't he. That name is certainly not a pleasant one either. In fact he might just be the most despised and loathed man in America today. Of course, when Professor Churchill espouses views as misinformed, hateful, and anti-American as he has what else can he expect?
Surely, surely, he can hold no reasonable expectations his words would be met with admiration and good feelings can he? Yet as I watched a replay of his recent speech in Boulder, Colorado, I got the distinct impression Churchill feels he is misunderstood.
He seems to think somehow people are bashing him and calling him names like traitor, as well as other names not mentionable here because they have failed to listen to his words. On the contrary, Mr. Churchill, those who are angered over your words have indeed read and listened to your words very carefully.
The hatred, and yes hatred is the emotion many feel towards Mr. Churchill, has come not from misunderstanding him but from understanding his words very clearly. As much as Mr. Churchill and his misguided supporters might protest, the facts are he has said and written things, which prove definitively how he, if not evil himself, clearly supports the evil terrorist groups have perpetrated against the civilized world.
Please understand exactly what Ward Churchill has said in regard to America, the terrorists who killed 3,000 of us on 9-11, and who he thinks is right or wrong in the current struggle. Ward Churchill has opined that the United States deserved the attacks three plus years ago; he has compared the victims of those attacks to Nazis. He has praised the "restraint" of the terrorists in taking so long to attack America and our citizens. He has also placed the blame on us, the American people and of course our evil capitalist greed for the attacks against us. He has, of course, opined that America's imperialistic and racist actions across the globe led to the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Using Ward Churchill's logic, we ought to write a thank you letter to al Qaeda and express our gratitude for not attacking us more often and promise to change into a friendlier, less capitalistic nation.
See in Ward Churchill's twisted and demented mind, America is an evil, racist land where we all delight in subjugating other nations, and targeting and massacring innocent women and children by the millions. Now to a reasoned, educated student of history such claims are easily dismissed as asinine and baseless. Now not to say this nation is perfect or has always been perfect in its actions. Certainly America, like every other nation, has stains in it's past. However, Ward Churchill, like Robert Jensen, and other fanatical anti-American zealots do not stop at talking of our faults as a nation. Instead, they distort our history, lie about our nation, and attempt to poison the minds of those foolish enough to listen to their rantings and ravings.
They condemn America for supposedly targeting civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq. Yet they do not stop at this ridiculous claim though. Not content with lying about America's actions they completely ignore the barbarity of the terrorists we are fighting. They also ignore the untold number of people Saddam Hussein butchered, as well as the other horrors he visited upon the Iraqi people. And if they do bother to mention these acts they either attempt to paint the terrorists we fight in Iraq as heroes fighting the evil American imperialists, or they gloss them over as nothing compared to the evil deeds America has committed.
The truly odd thing here is this; America is by far the freest nation on earth. There is less racism here than in other nations. Here women are the equal of men, women are not forced to cover themselves at the risk of risk beatings or worse. Here everyone has the right to speak and to live as he or she chooses. Here your religion is your business not the governments.
Yet Ward Churchill demonizes America as evil while the Islamo-Fascists we fight receive his praise and moral support. Does he not understand the sheer evil Osama Bin Laden and his ilk would love us all to live under? There would be no freedoms, no rights, no free elections, and no tolerance of any religion except radical Islam. Yet Ward Churchill praises our enemies and then has the gall to yell "power to the people"? Which people would that be Mr. Churchill? Certainly not women, or Jews, or Homosexuals, or Christians or any other group these evil people regarded as being of less value.
Ward Churchill wrote soon after 9-11 that the attacks were simply America's chickens coming home to roost. The attacks were, in his estimation, simply a very small payback for America's atrocities across the otherwise peaceful world.
Well now, it seems the chickens belonging to Ward Churchill are coming back to him aren't they? He used his freedom of speech to attack innocent victims as deserving of their fate. He chose to label America as evil, and our soldiers as cowards, and then heaped praise and adoration upon the evil people we are fighting. Now he is angry because people are attacking his evil beliefs?
Maybe Ward Churchill was right about one thing after all sometimes those pesky chickens do indeed come home to roost. His chickens certainly are.
