Gun grabbers silent no more!
By Doug Hagin
The silence from the gun control supporters in this nation has been deafening the past few years. Anyone seeking a debate over gun rights and the Second Amendment could have, at one time, found a plethora of cases to be fired up about. Something happened during the 2000 election though, that changed this.
That year the Democratic Party, which is, of course, a decidedly anti-gun owner party, finally figured out that bashing gun owners and attempting to subvert the Constitution was costing them any hope of regaining power in Washington.
So they put their radical views on gun ownership, the Constitutional guarantee to keep and bear arms, and self-defense on the back burner in that election. Where once any presidential election was sure to spark intense debate between the Liberal and Conservative candidate over guns, 2000 was ominously silent on the issue.
Gun control groups turned their rhetoric way down, candidates who had once supported gun control zipped their lips on the topic, and the debate, for the most part went away. That trend has continued through the 2002 mid-term elections and the 2004 presidential race as well. Now of course Democrats did not cease their anti-gun feelings or intentions, not at all. They simply stopped being vocal and open about it. They knew it was a losing argument so they stopped arguing.
Just this past week however, the volume over gun control and self-defense rights was suddenly turned back up. Gun control leaders like Sarah Brady was back in the public eye demonizing gun and concealed carry laws. It was as if Liberals everywhere had suddenly remembered how much they loathed guns. So what was it that jarred their memories loose?
Florida Governor Jeb Bush, a Conservative supporter of supposedly right-wing ideals like the right for citizens to defend themselves signed a brand new law on April 26. The law allows law-abiding Floridians with concealed carry permits to use force, deadly force, to protect themselves from violent criminals who are threatening them, even if they are in public. Formerly those Floridians had a responsibility to flee if accosted outside their homes.
Sounds very much like a common sense law doesn't it? Who could possibly argue that innocent people hold no right to defend themselves just because they are accosted on a street or ally? Well of course, Liberals could, and are making the argument against this new law that serves notice to violent criminals that the law will no longer protect them, but their intended victims instead.
Predictable those opposed to the new law are on full hyperbole overload mode. They are predicting a "Wild-West" atmosphere, and shootouts in the streets, and increases in crime, and likely even that the law causes tooth decay and obesity.
Take a listen to just a small sampling of the hyperbolic non-sense being spewed by the gun grabbers who seemingly abhor our right to self-defense more than they abhor violent crime. Sarah Brady, the queen of the anti-gun zealots decried the new law as a "terrible, terrible mistake" that would surely make Florida into "an almost uncivilized society." WOW! Sarah Brady considers a man defending his life or family uncivilized? I guess allowing a criminal to have his way would be considered "civilized" by Brady?
Brady continued to attack the new law. "The Florida law has gone so far that it almost encourages people to see a necessity to do this," "Having my husband a victim and seeing how it destroys families, what's happening in Florida is there are going to be more innocent victims. What I'm worried about is an escalation in violence. It opens the door for that to happen." So the law encourages people to do what Ms. Brady? Defend themselves? Stand their ground when confronted by evil? Heaven forbid those types of things should ever happen in Sarah Brady's world apparently. Again, the unmistakable message from the far-left in America is that we hold no right to protect ourselves, our loved ones or our property from those who would do us harm.
Sarah Brady was not alone in her Liberal outrage over Floridians having the right to self-defense either. Consider the words of Rep. Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach. "Two people in an altercation, that happens every day. Someone thinks you're looking at their wife the wrong way, somebody spills coffee on you, someone bumps into you, someone cuts you off, then all of a sudden they're in a fight," said Gelber, a former federal prosecutor. "Do we tell those people that they're supposed to walk away or do we tell them that you're supposed to stand your ground and fight to the death?"
What in the world, is Rep. Gelber talking about? Did he read this piece of legislation? Obviously, he did not. If he had, he would know it allows use of force ONLY if the victim feels in immediate danger. Yet Liberals like Gelber always try to push the fear buttons don't they? Every time any new law upholds the right to own guns, they go off on their hyperbolic overloads!
In every state that has a concealed carry law, Liberals predicted blood in the streets and Wild West shootouts, and escalations of shootings, and on and on. In every single one of those states, they have been proven dead wrong. Yet, they never learn. Like a confused bird that keeps flying into a closed window, the Liberals absolutely refuse to accept reality or learn from their mistakes.
Instead of opening their minds and accepting reality, they seal them up tighter and dig in their heels like a stubborn child who does not want to leave a toy store. Then they have the unmitigated gall to suggest that the National Rifle Association and gun owners are all a bunch of backwards hicks who are just itching to blow someone away.
Liberals have, once more entrenched to try to defend an intellectually untenable position, is anyone really surprised? Your gun threatens their ideology. So does your right to self-defense. The more self-reliant you are the less power Liberals have over your life. If you can, by law, defend yourself against criminals, Liberals lose part of their grip on your life.
Liberal ideology is firmly based upon the principle that people are evolved, from nothing, into needy, helpless creatures that must have a large government, a Liberal one of course, take care of them. The right to self-defense is in direct contradiction of this Liberal philosophy. Given a choice between a safer country, and every bit of information points out armed citizens are safer, and a country with higher crime but more Liberal power, liberals will always choose power over your safety!
