Islamists: Fear us and ve keel you!
By Donald Hank
Nothing could be more untenable than a universally feared group demanding that those who fear them stop saying they fear them or else!
Sort of like: "If you don't start agreeing that ve are peaceful, ve slice you to ribbons."
Make sense?
This is precisely the absurd posture of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which has issued an Islamophobe monitor stating that the soon-to-be-released film by Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders will have "serious repercussions which could get out of hand and would be difficult to control."
The unmistakable implication is that there will be a repeat of the kind of Islamic violence that occurred after publication of Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard's cartoon mocking Muhammad.
Now suppose a group calling themselves the Organization of the Christian Conference issued a warning to the countless middle-eastern Christian haters, including those who are decimating Iraqi Christians and forcing them into exile, saying these anti-Christian actions will have "serious repercussions which could get out of hand and would be difficult to control."
Would world Christendom band together and stand shoulder to shoulder with this group?
You know the answer to that.
"Shame on these so-called Christians," the headlines would read, and lily-lipped sermons would be preached for months condemning these so-called Christians and their threats of violent revenge.
That, however, is exactly the kind of response that must be demanded of the OIC, which needs to be reminded that precisely their threatened "serious repercussions" are the subject of Wilders' film, and that to threaten the Christian West is to admit that Wilders is 100% right when he maintains Islam is violent. The OIC has issued an untenable statement and must be kept in the corner into which they have painted themselves.
The only possible rational response to Wilders' film that could sway people to sincerely disagree with its producer is a statement from the OIC that Muslims are a peaceful people and any Muslim who reacts violently to this film is not a true Muslim. Yet they attack the messenger and threaten him with violence.
At least the OIC isn't pretending to be peaceful.
Thus, in the arena of ideas, Wilders wins the debate by default.
But will his countrymen — and the West as a whole — give him the credit he deserves? Or will they continue to cringe and cower behind their political correctness and cede ever more territory to the enemy of civilization?
Right now, the West holds all the cards. People with winning hands have traditionally won. Yet, the West is well-versed in the art of capitulating to adversaries inferior in number, brains and weaponry.
