Mr. Pitts slanders the general
By Fred Hutchison
Letter to the Editor, The Columbus Dispatch
On March 19, columnist Leonard Pitts called General Peter Pace a "bigot," and "immoral." General Pace had said homosexuality is immoral. Does Pitts think that everyone who calls homosexuality immoral is a bigot and an immoral man? If so, were Moses, Saint Paul and Saint Thomas Aquinas bigots and immoral?
Pitts claims that it is only how we treat people which makes us moral and immoral and that sex has nothing to do with it. If you believe Greek Hedonist philosophy you will agree with Pitts. If you believe the Holy Bible you will agree with General Pace. Does Pitts believe the only reason for accepting Christianity and rejecting Hedonism is bigotry and immorality?
Pitts claims that Pace's reaction to homosexuality is purely visceral and therefore is bigotry. He claims that Pace thinks "...its wrong because its wrong." But this is highly improbable and Pitts offers no evidence to back it up. It is very likely that Pace believes that homosexuality is against nature and contrary to the universal moral law due to the teachings of his religious faith and his study of the Bible.
Ten years ago, gay activists began to use the technique of "jamming" which means to shower insults and slanders on anyone who is opposed to homosexuality. "Jamming" is now common in the far left of American politics. Is this what Pitts is doing? Mr. Pitts, do you believe gratuitous insults and slanders are moral?
