Score Pat Tillman American hero, Rene Gonzalez cowardly America hater
By Jan Ireland
Words so often reveal more than the writer intends, and truth can find its way out of the craftiest planted propaganda.
Puerto Rico and the University of Massachusetts were shamed yesterday when their lamentable son Rene Gonzalez sought to wound America as it grieves for football great turned elite Army Ranger Pat Tillman.
Racism and envy were part of the reason Gonzalez called Tillman a "pendejo" (idiot) and a "Rambo" soldier who deserved to die. But the biggest reason of all was the personal cowardice of America hater Rene Gonzalez.
Like most liberals, Rene fears force. As Spain did, he believes placating terrorists will keep him safe. Perhaps the recent talk of reinstating a draft caused him to declare his allegiance early.
Rene's "stupidity of both the Afghanistan and Iraqi wars" forgets the Taliban's ties to Osama bin Laden, the terrorist attacks upon America, and the dozen years of UN Resolutions violations. He mistakes a "new" war for a resumption of hostilities, and gives America no credit for repeatedly offering Saddam a chance to surrender.
He says "the Taliban is more Afghani than we are. Their resistance is more legitimate than our invasion...." If his native Puerto Rico was invaded by a "Hispanic" country would he ask America for help, do you think? Or would he submit to the new despots who were "more Puerto Rican" than the US? (America provides protection for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, which has no regular indigenous military forces.)
"It wasn't like he was defending the East coast from an invasion of a foreign power." This is isolationist thinking. It built the Great Wall in China, and we tried it in WWII. Today we have American citizens, interests and allies in every part of the world. Missiles, WMD, and nuclear weapons respect no borders or barriers — even if our thousands of miles of borders were secured. We meet those threats there, or we meet them in American streets. Because we are the world's superpower, we can choose.
Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. When Rene says "Ask the Israelis if 50 years of blunt force have eradicated the Palestinian resistance" he materially underestimates the military might of Israel. If "blunt force" had really been applied, the Palestinians now would be rubble. Israel hits military targets. Arab suicide bombers aim for as many innocent civilians as possible, while Arafat's own family lives in luxury in France.
Millions of dollars went from Saddam to Arafat, as they did to France, Germany and Russia. Kofi Annan and the UN Oil for Food program allowed billions to be skimmed away. Rene might want to sign up for another course or two in actual history.
Rene thinks Pat Tillman "irrationally" gave up millions of dollars from the NFL for "America is #1, frat boy, propaganda bull."
Liberals never do understand America.
I have no doubt that Rene is claiming every American right he can finagle. Every one of those rights was paid for with the lives of American servicemen.
One thing is sure. Rene is lucky to live in America where there are a lot of men like Pat Tillman. Pat's military brothers won't come after Rene for the cowardly things he wrote. Though America's fighting men certainly could. And in any place but America, they might.
But deep down cowardly little Rene knows he can safely slap America, precisely because of the American military men.
Score Pat Tillman, American hero.
Score Rene Gonzalez, just another cowardly America hater.
To their credit, the Daily Collegian ran an opposing opinion, and UMass expressed dismay at little Rene's words.
