Lies and moral values in old media
By Jan Ireland

In trying ever more desperately to throw the 2004 presidential election to John Kerry, America's mainstream media blatantly revealed corruption and a hidden agenda. The Old Media wanted conservative George Bush removed, and was willing to grievously abuse First Amendment freedoms to bring that about.

Old Media lied incessantly, in what they were reporting and what they refused to report. Their biased campaign coverage in favor of John Kerry was worth millions. Old Media in fact boasted that their coverage could boost Kerry by 15 percentage points.

While the flimsiest rumor about George Bush made front page headlines, Old Media never once addressed the very serious questions of character and integrity raised by the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth. Nor did they ever question why twenty years in the US Senate produced a Kerry record consistent only on abortion, raising taxes, dismantling our military capabilities, and toadying to the United Nations.

At a time when millions of Americans used "moral values" to guide their presidential choice, Old Media clung to an extremist agenda. Paradoxically, their decades of lying provided the opening for the intellectually honest New Media. Talk Radio, conservative oped columnists, and internet bloggers are now the New Media of choice for millions.

Early on election day, Old Media projected a runaway win for John Kerry. They hoped to depress conservative voting as they had done in 2000, when they called Gore the winner before the polls even closed. There is discussion now about how the famed "exit polls" could have been so wrong, but the answer is obvious.

They simply reported what they wanted Americans to believe. That is symptomatic of what is becoming an almost axiomatic belief that none of their reporting can be trusted.

CBS's Dan Rather, caught using forged documents to try to bring down George Bush at the last moment, kept "standing by" his story — despite the fact that internet bloggers had begun exposing the lies within hours. In conjunction with the New York Times, CBS concocted a missing weapons hoax at the last minute, suggesting that our military had allowed "looters" to carry off 380 tons of explosives.

Internet bloggers began calculating the number of trucks, men, and days it would take to haul off that many tons. Talk Radio found and interviewed a military commander who was at the site, and who personally destroyed several thousand tons of explosives himself. In perspective, the amount in question was less than one percent of the total amount of explosives destroyed in Iraq so far, yet the media furor persisted.

Still, instead of removing biased Dan Rather, CBS still had him anchoring on election night. The New York Times made no changes.

As David Limbaugh asked, "What does it say about the Old Media that they are wholly uninterested in gravely serious and highly relevant charges against John Kerry yet investigate to death relatively minor and largely irrelevant claims against President Bush?"

John Kerry was a lying candidate, a two-faced fool, and the pre-nup bound poodle of a billionaire harridan. He benefited from many millions of dollars from billionaire leftist George Soros, and more millions from various 527 "non-partisan" groups.

But Old Media focused on none of this. They were willing to put him into the presidency because he was not George Bush, and because he shared their extreme leftist agenda.

The Old Media harbor disdain for the American electorate. They look at the sea of red on the election map and see idiots, too stupid to realize leftist superiority. They have been unchecked, and unwilling to check themselves. They deliberately perpetuate myths: that Republicans are the party of the rich; that the Democrat party is for the "little" guy; that a million black voters were disenfranchised in Florida; that George Bush in 2000 was selected not elected; and that all Blacks vote Democrat.

But in a time of renewed moral values, the American people have begun to check the media for themselves. Their decision is clear.

Out with the Old Media. In with the New Media.
