Punxsutawney Phil is a Left-wing operative
Comparing Leftists to groundhogs actually makes sense
By Tom Kovach

The subject might not be as far-fetched as it seems.

Compare the facts about Groundhog Day, and its famous weather "predictor," Punxsutawney Phil, with the methods of Left-wing operatives.

1. Punxsutawney Phil suddenly appears on the scene from a "hole" of obscurity. If not for massive promotion by the Left-leaning news media, would anyone have ever heard of Punxsutawney Phil?

2. The "observations" of Punxsutawney Phil are "interpreted" by a small team of "experts" — who, conveniently, benefit financially from the hordes of tourists and reporters that descend upon the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, each year on Groundhog Day. (The "interpreters" are civic and business leaders from Punxsutawney. In another interesting parallel, they are knows as "The Inner Circle.")

3. The fix is in. Punxsutawney Phil is guaranteed to see his shadow, and thus "predict" six more weeks of winter. How? The willing shills in the news media position their TV camera crews all around the groundhog's hole. With the glaring lights surrounding the hole from several angles, there would be a shadow somewhere, no matter which way Punxsutawney Phil turned his furry little head. Therefore, he has no choice but to see his shadow. (No choice but their choice, that's a staple of Left-wing public "relations.")

4. The double-fix is in. It certainly doesn't hurt Punxsutawney Phil's chances of being "correct" in his predictions, considering that Groundhog Day is approximately six weeks before the Vernal Equinox (the "official" start of Spring).

Now, think about the parallels. Let's use "global warming" as an example.

1. Without any media scrutiny, Al Gore suddenly "appeared" on the scene as an "expert" on global warming during his term as Vice-President of the United States. The fact that his college degree was in journalism, not science, did not seem to matter to the news media. (The same "mainstream" news media that allowed Gore a free pass regarding his claims to have invented the Internet, even though he was supposedly "fighting" in Vietnam — as a journalist, who only did half of a one-year tour of duty — at the time that real scientists actually invented the Internet.)

2. Al Gore's claims about global warming are "interpreted" to be true by a small group of scientists that benefit financially from government grants ... to study global warming! (And, after a few years of hawking his scare theme — and getting paid speaking fees to talk about a "phenomenon" that doesn't exist — Al Gore benefited financially from the sales of his book about global warming. Now, he has parlayed that into an Oscar nomination for a movie from the book.)

3. The fix is in. The average American, feeling overworked from two jobs (just so that he can afford to pay taxes, which are so high to pay for Left-wing programs voted in by Democratic legislators), barely has time to scan the headlines. So, without the application of logical scrutiny, Bubba Doublewide has no other choice than to accept the premise that "global warming is real" and that Al Gore has the solution. And, of course, the "solution" is even more government programs and regulations.

4. The double-fix is in. Bubba Doublewide gets his news and weather information from the same media outlets that told him about global warming in the first place. So, when those same organizations tell him that anyone that disagrees with the "mainstream" about global warming should lose their professional credentials, Bubba is apt to fall for the scheme. If all he ever hears about is the "reality" of global warming, because all the dissenters have been fired, then Bubba will be sold on the idea.

Now, take that same method, and apply it to other "truths" that have been foisted upon our modern society by the "mainstream" news media. For example:

1. Illegal aliens are merely doing the jobs that Americans won't do. Oh, really? I especially loathe that one, because it insults all hard-working Americans. After the "9-11" attacks, lawsuits in America dropped dramatically. The job market for paralegals became pretty bleak. Having moved to Nashville only six weeks before those attacks (and, thus, being an "outsider" — a dangerous thing to be in Nashville), I decided to look for a completely different line of work. There are plenty of places around Nashville with horses, I used to own horses, and I've ridden horses for over thirty years. So, I went out and got a job as a real-live wrangler on a trail-riding ranch. With my college degree, and my paralegal certificate, I went out and chucked bales of hay every morning. I walked through icy muck in an overcrowded corral in February, kept the same horses from fighting over the grain every day, and gave riding lessons to greenhorn city slickers that thought they knew it all. So, if I was willing to shovel manure to put groceries on the table — while being qualified to run for Congress — then I just can't imagine that there are any "jobs that American's won't do." Can you?

2. Hillary Clinton would make a good president. Yeah, right. The woman is a Communist. Anyone that believes she just "happened" to move to New York after her husband left office is a fool. (For details, see my columns, "STOP Hillary NOW!!", and "Staple Down the Tablecloths!".) If elected, she would do even more damage to America than her husband did.

3. The founders created a two-party system in America. No, they did not! There never has been a time when there were only two political parties in America. The news media has repeated that mantra so often that even many people that should know better (such as university professors of political science) pass it along as truth. At the time when the Republican Party was founded, for example, they were the fourth party in America that was focused on the slavery issue. Now, both the Democrats and the Republicans try to keep "third" parties out of the political arena.

4. Islam is a "religion of peace," because "we all believe in the same God." That is a double-lie. Islam is not a religion of peace. There is no parallel in Judaism or Christianity to "conversion at the point of a sword." Jews believe in one God, who delivered them from bondage in Egypt to their own Promised Land. Christians believe that the same God of the Jews has a plan to save all of mankind, and that the plan includes the Son of God, Jesus, who came to the world in human flesh, died, and rose from the dead. Muslims are largely duped into believing that the god of Mohammed is the same as the God of Abraham, Moses, David, and Jesus. But, in reality, Mohammed rallied people to worship Allah, the Mesopotamian moon god — the son of Baal, the Mesopotamian sun god. In the Old Testament of the Holy Bible, the evil Baal was at war with God the Father. In the New Testament, the son of Baal is at war with the God the Son. No human, nor group of humans, could've invented such a cosmic "coincidence" that spans four thousand years of history. But, as my column "Louder Than Words" pointed out, Islamist terrorists have much in common with Socialist totalitarians. And, given that most members of the "mainstream" news media have Socialist leanings, it is convenient for them to lull the sensibilities of conservative Jews and Christians that might otherwise be more resistant to Islamist encroachments upon our Judeo-Christian culture and laws.

So, you see, claiming that Punxsutawney Phil is a Left-wing operative is not such a big stretch of logic after all. And, the groundhog parallel even applies to undermining our American culture. Without the help of the TV lights, Punxsutawney Phil would quickly fade into obscurity and irrelevance.

Let us hope that other Left-wing operatives will eventually do likewise!
