Euthanasia, suicide & abortion
By Melanie Mills

When we see a world gone crazy, what are we to think? What are we to do? I want to address "assisted suicide" — or euthanasia. Think about some things I will cover, this relates to abortion.

I remember when suicide was stigmatized. If you did it, or a family member did it, you were saddened. In Asian cultures, this is a form of making one an outcast if their family member does this. OK, enter in euthanasia. If we allow this, then we need to quit interventions when people attempt suicide. You can't have it both ways.

To address the religious aspects, let's get that done before I am stereotyped as a far-right zealot. I did some research, and will give internet sources at the end.

In Asian cultures, life in all forms is highly regarded, and if one ends their life, their family is shunned. In most major religions, we see the same train of thought. In Taoism/Daoism, we see they believe in the pursuit of longevity of life, eternal life, and they believe death should neither be feared nor desired. Why then does our culture embrace death? In Buddhism, they place great significance on human life. Hindus believe harming oneself is bad "karma," and in Islam we see the Koran objects to taking one's life as well.

So for all the leftist naysayers, monotheism (Christianity) is congruent with polytheistic practice and theology, contradictory to what they tell us on almost a daily basis.

If these polytheistic ideologies match that of American values, why does the left still wish for death? Why also do we see Christianity taking a beating for being pro-life, when other religions are also pro-life as well? It all reminds me of doublespeak, and as usual, the media in America has got it wrong.

The media is also trying to persuade Americans that euthanasia is accepted by the majority, when in fact it is not. Suicide is also illegal and we still put suicidal people in psychiatric institutions now as we always have.

Euthanasia is just another symptom like abortion in our culture of a people in spiritual and moral chaos. We are seeing symbology and especially semantics gone amok.

Calling something a "mercy" killing does not give killing acceptable value, it only twists words and serves to confuse American minds.

When you violate the absolutes in favor of the shades of gray, the lines between right and wrong become blurred and we see cases like Terri Schiavo come to life.

As a psychiatric nurse, I was trained to restrain those wanting to harm themselves but then we have those that push physicians to prescribe lethal doses of drugs to end lives.

Have people forgotten that is breaking the law? The DEA takes licenses away from MD's that prescribe controlled substances too much. There is a reason why certain drugs are controlled, because they are addictive and if not used properly, will cause health problems and death. Nurses are stripped of their licenses for giving the wrong dose of a medicine to a patient. Heaven forbid you accidentally kill a patient. The torment you would feel that you violated the code, "First, do no harm." Is there a worse harm than killing a patient? Do people really want nurses to abandon the Nightingale pledge?

Then follow me, why would we purposely hasten one's death? That's called schizophrenia. Even worse, Planned Parenthood is pushing for Plan B to be over the counter if you can believe that. Does the public realize the ramifications? You will see women hemorrhaging, having strokes and heart attacks if they can buy these drugs next to the Tylenol without proper medical follow up and care.

Can you imagine what rapists and pedophiles would do if they had access to these drugs? This is all why in medicine we have health care professionals to guide people and their care. This is why pharmacists are not comfortable dispensing drugs that can harm. The public also has to keep in mind when people get hurt by medicines, doctors, pharmacists and nurses can lose their licenses to practice that they worked so hard to get. This is why we can't throw Plan B around like candy, which Planned Parenthood seeks to do.

Ok America, make up your minds. Do you want wholesale death on a plate — abortion on demand, euthanasia and suicide legalized or................do we choose the path of life-birth, natural death, and health care practitioners with skill, morals, ethics, and professionalism?

You can't have macabre science and good medicine in the same pill. Those are contradictions, and there is not enough sugar to coat that jagged little pill.
