Pat Buchanan: hater of Israel, defender of old Nazis

Pat Buchanan's Friday, May 13th article about a convicted Nazi murderer "The Persecution of John Demjanjuk" (see: http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=43485) should be a final nail in the coffin of his career. Just as her "get the hell out of Palestine" and go back to Germany comment ended the career of Helen Thomas this needs to be it for Buchanan.

There is a long litany of reasons for Pat Buchanan to finally be relegated to the same waste bin of exposed anti-Semitic extremists where Thomas now finds herself — but for now let's focus on his longstanding, irrational hatred of Israel and his unwavering defense of Nazi War Criminals. His defense of Nazi War Criminal immigrants (for a commentator who makes law and order issues and anti-immigrant rants a central focus of his work) speaks volumes.

Jerome A. Brentar who has been called "the founder and main financier of the Demjanjuk Defense Committee" had this to say about Buchanan: "Pat Buchanan (is) a savvy and courageous writer and probably the most prominent national defender of Demjanjuk."

Brentar praise for Buchanan appeared in The Journal of Historical Review — published by the Institute for Historical Review (IHR). The IHR is the largest Holocaust denial organization in the United States. Brentar was a featured speaker at the Eleventh IHR Conference in October 1992 and his remarks there were published in the November/December 1993 issue (Vol. 13, No. 6) of the journal.

Buchanan has dwelled on Israel and Jews for decades. Often when writing on topics completely unrelated he veers off and criticizes Israel.

A gem of an example of this is from his 2010 article "Why Are We Still in Korea?" (See http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=40214) Buchanan called for the U.S. to abandon South Korea. He asked "Why, when the Cold War has been over for 20 years, do all these Cold War alliances still exist?"

Buchanan wrote in his 1990 book Right From The Beginning that General Douglas MacArthur and Senator Joseph McCarthy were his heroes growing up. He still invokes the memory of President Reagan. None of Buchanan's heroes would agree with his idea to abandon South Korea.

So why did Buchanan write about Korea? It seems that Buchanan's sole reason for addressing the events in Korea in the first place was so he could bash Israel. For Buchanan North Korea plus South Korea equals Israel.

Here's what he wrote in his "Why Are We Still in Korea?" article:

To broker peace in Palestine, Obama began his presidency with a demand that Israel halt all new construction of settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Today, as his price for a one-time-only 90-day freeze on new construction on the West Bank, but not East Jerusalem, "Bibi" Netanyahu is demanding 20 F-35 strike fighters, a U.S. commitment to a Security Council veto of any Palestinian declaration of independence, and assurances the U.S. will support a permanent Israeli presence on the Jordan river [sic]. And the Israelis want it all in writing.

Buchanan is an irrational, hate-filled extremist who is obsessed with both Israel and Nazis. Why is he still given a forum anywhere by anyone?
