It is time to have background-checked armed guards at public schools
By Laurie Roth

With the latest horror show of a shooting in a Connecticut elementary school, we have seen 27 people slaughtered, 18 or more of them little children according to the unfolding news. A 20-year-old gunman murdered his mother, then drove to the school and started his shooting slaughter there. The shooter then killed himself. Already the speculation about motives and mental illness is flying everywhere — autistic, personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive...on and on. The guy was a sick, twisted nightmare who murdered a ton of people then himself. I could care less what brand of craziness and evil he was...he was evil. Millions of people in America have various forms and flavors of mental challenges and illness. They don't plan to murder people.

Regardless of the deranged or compromised heart and mind that would do such a thing, the real nightmare and betrayal to America is that this could have been avoided if gun control fanatics hadn't demanded that teachers and administrators not carry guns or be trained to protect kids at school. Larry Pratt, head of Gun Owners of America is spot on with his comments on this. "Gun control supporters have the blood of little children on their hands. Federal and state laws combined to insure that no teacher, no administrator, no adult had a gun at the Newtown school where the children were murdered. This tragedy underscores the urgency of getting rid of gun bans in school zones. The only thing accomplished by gun free zones is to insure that mass murderers can slay more before they are finally confronted by someone with a gun." It is time to stop ALL gun bans and start protecting schools.

With all the endless Jihad and Islamic terror attacks that hit Israel, kids in schools are safe because every school has armed guards at points of entry. People never barge into schools in Israel and start a shooting rampage. They would be shot and killed immediately. You cannot murder children in Israeli schools because the adults treat them like the priceless treasures they are. What is wrong with us?

Today, I interviewed Dr. Bruce Porter, firefighter-chaplain, first responder, and expert on these type of disasters. He was at the Columbine disaster, Beslan Massacre, Amish school murders, and 9/11 ground zero, ministering to victims and their families over these many years. He agrees that it is high time to start putting armed guards at our schools — that is, guards who have passed a background check. Demonizing guns and distorting our rage and retaliation on guns is stupid and wrong. The truth is that evil exists and regardless of your choice of weapon, an evil, deranged person with an agenda to destroy will find whatever weapon that is available — legal or illegal. This could be a gun, knife, car, bat, shovel, poison, fist, bomb, fire...whatever they can use to kill or destroy.

The bottom line after experiencing another of these horrific nightmares of loss with our children is that all schools must have background-checked, armed guards and state-of-the-art security systems and protocol. This blood bath in Connecticut wasn't due to the 20-year-old murderer having guns, IT WAS DUE TO THE TEACHERS AND STAFF NOT HAVING GUNS.
