Ben Thompson, 60, of New Ulm, Minnesota, has a masters degree in counseling & psychological services, with concentration with juvenile justice, from St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota. He is a former police officer and U.S. army medic. He has also been an administrator for religious education, supervising the training, teaching, and budget for 44 teachers and 450 students for several years.

In addition, Ben has been a businessman, coach, and newspaper reporter.

Ben and his wife Sheri have six children and ten grandchildren.
