But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!
By Sam Weaver

Atheists, relativists and revisionist historians have made it a top priority to portray America's Founding Fathers as deists, Unitarians and/or secularists. These same relativists and "historians" cite statistics which "prove" that church membership in the American colonies at the time of the Revolutionary War was below ten percent. These and countless other tactics are part of a broad strategy to discredit if not completely dismiss the rock-solid fact that America was originally founded upon the truths and principles of Judeo-Christianity.

I have studied myriad writings and websites from the atheistic, "free-thinking," relativist perspective. All strive to make one point: that America's Founders were not Christian; rather, they were by-and-large either deists or Unitarians. I have also read — and analyzed quite profusely — countless writings, speeches, epistles, and memoirs of many of America's Founding Fathers.

In all of my examinations of those ubiquitous "free-thought" treatises and sites, I have observed an obvious common thread. Virtually all of them use the very same quotes from Jefferson, Madison, Adams and Franklin, usually excruciatingly derived — in other words, taken way out of context! — to make their case. Anyone who would spend a modicum of time and effort to see what America's Founders really said will surely realize the hoax that is being perpetrated upon modern Americans! "Free-thinkers," it looks to me, are marching lock-step to one drum. So much for free thought!

Lagniappe: Both the meaning of the word "Unitarian" and the doctrines of Unitarianism changed drastically from John Adams' day to after Ralph Waldo Emerson's time. Today, Unitarianism is a far cry from what it was circa 1770!

Those who believe that America's Founders demanded an "absolute separation between church and state" allege that church membership in early America hovered around ten percent or less of the whole population. Consider both the facts that this dubious statistic ignores and the realities that could not possibly be factored into the equation. For example, what defined church membership? Was it defined by, say, the Anglican Church? Were Catholics and others (and there were many others!) not considered? And what about the thousands if not even tens of thousands of folks that held weekly — or in many cases, daily — Bible studies and prayer meetings in their homes among families and neighbors? Were they not faithful members of the true Church simply because they were not counted in some "official" census?

Please — PLEASE! — delve into the many speeches, writings and personal letters of America's most influential Founders. Do not take the word of a few writers, bloggers, history teachers, or even documentaries on the History Channel as absolute truth! Do not by any means take my word as truth! Search for Truth yourself! I am confident that you will find, as I did, that America was established upon Truth — the stable, reliable, immutable and eternal laws and principles of the Judeo-Christian faith.

I've received a bit of flack from readers who make the valid point that the term "Judeo-Christian" is a very recent expression. The phrase itself was alien to Madison, Jefferson and even Washington; however, the concept was crucial to their ideology and to the founding of the United States of America.

Judaism without Christianity tends to focus on judgment and to neglect mercy. Christianity without Judaism, on the other hand, centers on mercy while largely disregarding judgment. The Old Testament — the state of man under the iron fist of law — was written to a nation. It instructs nations to place judgment (or justice) ahead of mercy. The New Testament is a Covenant of Grace written to individuals. It tells individuals how to conduct their personal relationships. The New Covenant is a covenant of grace and mercy.

Back in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, no one uttered the phrase "Judeo-Christian." Yet the core group of American Founders repeatedly propounded words and phrases such as "Scripture," "Divine or 'Holy' Scripture," "Divine Providence," and "Almighty God" to connote both the Source of human rights and the key to sound government. For the most part, America's Founders knew and understood both the Old Testament (Judeo) and the New Testament (Christian). They quoted often from both. They raised a new nation, conceived in liberty, upon this knowledge and understanding.

Upon what is truly sound government established? America's Founders answered: "individual liberty!" Upon what is the concept of individual liberty based? The very idea of individual liberty has its roots in Genesis of the Holy Bible. It is instituted upon both the free will of man and the fallen nature of man. Liberty, as I have said time and time again in these columns, is absolute individual freedom provided the individual is both responsible to and is held accountable for any violations against the Laws of Nature and Nature's God.

In a society founded upon individual liberty, it is prerequisite that citizens and voters know and understand the Laws of Nature and Nature's God. Without such a standard, prurient selfish interests guide every citizen. Emotionally driven interests lead every voter. Political selfish interests (i. e., the desire for power and control) rule every politician. Economic selfish interests (i. e., the desire for power and wealth) direct every businessman.

Absent the Rule of Law, it is basically every man for himself. The most powerful, the most influential and the wealthiest make the rules as we all go along. This is exactly what we have in the world today. In fact, this has basically been the case since Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden. Modern liberals and populists who rightly decry the unjust and undue power of wealthy men and multi-national corporations must realize this fact: Relativism is to blame!

Earlier in American history, when captains of industry and robber barons began to exploit workers and consumers for all they could get, American liberty rose to the occasion to put the kibosh on the powerful. Today, however, the tables have turned. Unions, trial lawyers, politicians, powerful special interests and activist judges are putting the kibosh on American liberty.

We, the People of the United States of America, cannot assuage the runaway force and domination of power-mad politicians, egoistic special-interest groups, or the greedy CEO's of multi-national corporations until we remember and revere the Standard, the Source and the meaning of American liberty! When the U. S. Supreme Court commenced to take the Judeo-Christian God — the Creator and the Author of Law — out of the public schools under the guise of "Separation of Church and State," the very idea of any Standard, Source, or concise meaning of liberty began to give way to relativism. America was on her way toward "moderation," confusion, turmoil and control by secular elites.

Liberty requires a moral standard. Tyranny, anarchy and chaos demand the lack of any clear and binding moral standard. Relativism and its many offshoots such as "multiculturalism" and "political correctness" have provided the impetus in the Western world for a total lack of any sense of a moral standard. If people are not self-controlled by morality, they will be controlled by tyrants. As Paul Harvey often says, self-government will not work without self-discipline.

America was founded upon the political idea of representative government by the consent of a moral, educated and informed governed. She was established upon the economic idea of free-enterprise. Her success or failure hinged upon the degree to which posterity would understand and abide by the principles that were set forth in both the Old and the New Testaments of the Holy Bible. If you question this, then PLEASE look into the writings and speeches of America's Founders in their whole context; and disregard books, websites and "documentaries" from both the "right" and the "left" with obvious and/or peculiar selfish agendas!

America was the first nation in all of human history to have been founded securely upon the worldview principles of both the Old and New Testaments of the Judeo-Christian Bible. Her religious, political, economic, and scientific institutions were all based squarely upon Biblical truths. Truths such as judgment and mercy, the free will of man, the corrupt nature of man, and "Love the LORD your GOD with all your heart, soul and mind; and love your neighbor as you love yourself" are absolutely essential to the well-being and prosperity of representative government and free-enterprise. Liberty is crucial to technological advancement and scientific discovery. Ask Galileo!

In 21st century America, our courts and our politicians have largely rejected the Judeo-Christian God. As a result, public schools teach relativism and confusion. The only "standard of truth" has become something known as "conventional wisdom."

We've come a very long way since 1776, and since the 1940's, much of that way has been a diversion from original American ideals and principles and has become a nosedive toward the morass of moral relativism.

Pray for America! If you are not praying, then you are a significant part of America's many problems!

WE, the PEOPLE of the United States of America, have a serious choice to make. Do we want liberty or tyranny? Do we want our politicians, bureaucrats and judges to be held responsible and accountable to the Laws of Nature and Nature's God? Or do we want them to impose their notions of truth and law — and their will — upon us?

When we allow a handful of judges to, in effect, write law for all of the people of the United States, we are living under tyranny. When we elect presidents who will nominate such judges and senators who will confirm them, then we are begging for tyrannical control!

Our choice is crystal clear. Unfortunately, the clarity of that choice is muddled by a somewhat immoral, uneducated and uninformed electorate. Our public schools, by decree of the Supreme Court, can no longer teach even the very basic Laws of Nature and Nature's God. Our press "informs" the people from a purely secular perspective. Even many if not most of our churches and families are failing to teach the fundamental laws, principles and truths upon which America was founded. As a result, there is no longer either a definite Standard of right and wrong or a distinct Source of law. Law is relative and may the "best" person (or the most "politically 'correct'" group) win.

Every American who loves liberty and freedom should read and profoundly contemplate the words of Joshua (Joshua 24:14-28) in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible. These wise words have a great deal to say about modern relativism and the decline of morality in America today.
