Ideology of the Johns
By Mark West
Vacationing in Branson, Missouri last weekend provided me with enough down time to properly digest what I had witnessed on television last week. Unrestrained emotion and fervent cheers flooded my television screen as I viewed the Democratic National Convention. Digestion of what was said has brought me to an interesting conclusion which I plan to share with you today.
Slogans were an inconsistent theme at this convention. While the Democrat Party claims that, "America can do better," North Carolina Senator John Edwards guaranteed that, "Hope is on the way," and Massachusetts Senator John Kerry promised that, "Help is on the way." Contradictory phrases at best, outright dishonesty at worst. My hope is for the best.
Why are these statements contradictory? One portrays an America of capability and independence while the other two portray an America of inability and dependence. Hearing the Johns speak of hope and help reminded me of a local event here in my town that we call the "Help and Hope Food Drive." Various religious and social groups donate food supplies for those who are unable to provide for themselves and depend upon others for their well being. They need charity. Are all Americans the same? Is this the America that we live in? Is every American powerlessly dependent on our Government for handouts? If this is true, why is it true? In other words, what has caused America to be in this situation?
America is a melting pot of various indigenous peoples. We all become one America. I reject the notion of separate Americas for separate people. There is not a black America, nor a white America. There is not a poor America, nor a rich America. There is not a bound America, nor a liberated America. There is an America and we are all Americans! I disagree with the Johns, we do not live in the America they have vivaciously portrayed.
In the Johns' America a three-pronged class society has emerged. At the bottom of this class society is the lower class which is generally referred to as the oppressed. At the top of this class society in their ideology is the upper class which is generally referred to as the oppressor. But wait a minute, don't the Johns talk about "Two Americas?" Yes they do. They do so because it is politically expedient to do so. The third class in their ideologyis the best...the elite class which is generally referred to as the deliverer or redeemer State. Ideologically, the Johns represent the elite redeemer class desiring to deliver the oppressed from the oppressors.
However, a question must be answered, what type of deliverance are we talking about? Deliverance through Government handouts that are provided by oppressive taxes, unjust regulations and unnecessary bureaucracy. As troubling as this sounds, what is more deeply troubling is answering the question as to how these people got into the lower class to begin with.
Blacks, women, working, poor and middle and lower class people have found themselves in this category simply for being who they are. Blacks are oppressed because they are black by the whites. Women are oppressed because they are women by the men. Workers are oppressed because they are workers by the corporations. Poor are oppressed because they are poor by the rich. The middle and lower classed are oppressed because they are middle and lower classed by the upper class. Society is divided through this type of ideology. Like a beast, this ideology feeds and breeds on these divisions for political expedience and electoral gain.
I realize that it will not surprise you to discover that I don't believe in this America either!
I recognize how these people became the supporters of such a discriminatory and divisive ideology. Supporters of this ideology have been convinced by the elite redeemer class that they are in desperate need of their deliverance! In such, the land of the free and the home of the brave has been supplanted by the land of the slave and the home of the coward. One part of our society has become dependent on the Government. Oppressive income taxes and illegitimate Government handouts do not make independent free people, but rather make people dependent slaves! The Johns' ideology enslaves Americans by convincing them of their dependence upon their handouts and protection rather than encouraging them of their own personal independence and liberty. Can such an America really do better? Do you now see how the statements contradict?
America cannot do better according to the Johns' ideology unless the Johns are at the controls providing more government handouts to the "lower class" while oppressing the "upper class." Fairness and equality are not the means or the result of such ideology as is claimed, only deeper division and greater strife. Our differences should not be played upon each other in order that we are kept divided for political gain. Entitlement theology, like that of the Johns, convinces the lower and oppressed class that they are entitled to aid because of their oppression in order to sugar coat the enslaving truth that drives the ideology which I have just detailed.
Does America need help and hope or can America really do better on its own?
I would love to get a response from the Johns, maybe in the form of an explanation, of why they have so little faith in America and her citizens; yet so much faith in themselves and their policies. I believe that these two again betray a lack of confidence in the common man and his ability to make ends meet without their help.
Elitistic entitlement ideology has a goal that I am frightened that too many Americans are unaware of. Elitism and entitlements lead to slavery! Tragically the Jeffersonian Party is looking more Hamiltonian as the days pass. Alexander Hamilton stood for an elite class that should impose its will upon the common man because it alone knew what was best for the common man, while Thomas Jefferson stood for the voice of the common man believing that the common man knew what was best for himself. I believe the common man's voice is lost from the Democratic Party when they preach that Americans cannot do it alone but need their help and their hope.
I believe in a far different America than the Johns seem to be aware of. The True America is a far different place that what the Johns have presented to us. The True America is a place of freedom, not bondage. The True America is a place of God-given independence, not Governmental dependence. The True America is a place of self-evident truth, not institutional deceit. The True America is a place of people equally created by their God, not entitlement enabled by their Government. The True America is a place in which individual Rights are Creator endowed, not Government granted. The True America embraces the virtues of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness; not Death, License and the pursuit of Entitlements. The True America has a Government committed to securing the Rights of all people, not the special rights of some people. The True America defends the Right of her people to acknowledge God, not the Right of others to silence them. The True America is a much better place than what the Johns would have us believe.
In all honesty, the Johns ideology needs a divided America in order to win. Since their brand of ideology has been in place, the more deeply divided America has been, the more they have benefitted. Ronald Reagan won two of the most lop-sided presidential elections in history in 1980 and 1984 with a united nation which further benefitted George H. W. Bush in 1988. William Clinton won two tighter presidential elections in 1992 and 1996 as the nation was divided, such continued with President George W. Bush's victory in 2000. The more divided the nation, the more likely the Johns' ideology will win out. The more united the nation, the more likely Americans will be able to pierce the opaqueness of the Johns' ideology to a freer America and a brighter future.
