JOAN SWIRSKY — It's not a recent observation on my part; it goes back decades, so I've had a long time to figure out the meaning of this peculiar phenomenon. Specifically, it's that conservatives like me seem to enjoy the lion's share of being in a good mood, feeling optimistic, trusting that the many forms of rugged individualism can solve most problems, smiling easily and often, and generally seeing both the present and future as glasses half full.... CLIFF KINCAID — In his great book Unmasking Obama, Jack Cashill tells the story of those in the alternative media who uncovered a series of scandals involving Barack Hussein Obama, his campaign, and presidency. However, it didn't help that the Republicans nominated two weak candidates, John McCain in 2008 and Mitt Romney in 2012, who shied away from talking about the scandals (such as that of Obama's communist mentor).... JERRY NEWCOMBE — When I was a kid, I loved summer and dreaded the fall, because fall meant returning to school, with playtime over. But this year, I am glad to see summer is over. Phew. There are some parts of this country that I don't even recognize anymore--Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Kenosha, New York City. The Marxists in the streets have turned some parts of America into the wild, wild West. There are reported to be at least 30 dead in violence--14 of them cops. Sean Hannity said Aug. 28 that 3000 policemen have been injured in the recent riots.... (more)

THE BLAZE — A Wisconsin man was caught with a flamethrower, smoke grenades, and fireworks while headed toward a protest in Green Bay over the weekend, WBAY-TV reported. Matthew Banta, 23, is charged with obstructing an officer and two counts of felony bail jumping, the station reported. He's also "known to be a violent Antifa member who incites violence in otherwise relatively peaceful protests," WBAY said, citing a criminal complaint. Believe it or not, Banta also is known as "Commander Red," police told the station.... (more)

NATIONAL REVIEW — After a summer of seemingly unending chaos in America's cities, Kenosha just may have been the tipping point. For three nights, the city burned in rioting after the officer-involved shooting of Jacob Blake, while Democratic governor Tony Evers refused to deploy a Wisconsin National Guard contingent large enough to quell the violence.... PETER LEMISKA — As the Democrat nominee for president, Joe Biden is talking a lot these days about unifying the country. During his acceptance speech, he mentioned the word "unite" at least eight times. He said, "United we can, and will, overcome this season of darkness." He offered a new path, saying that together we can "take this chance to heal, to be reborn, to unite." He told us there was only one way forward, "As a united America."... (more)

BONNIE CHERNIN — There was quite a contrast between the 2020 Republican and Democratic national conventions and their messaging. The DNC was about negativity, bigotry, intolerance, and anti-Trump canards. The fact that Democrat governors are not controlling riots or murder rates in their states was ignored. No mention of the cancel culture that has become the unofficial platform of the Democrat party, where your religious freedom exists as long as it is not seen or heard.... (more)

DAILY SIGNAL — If this summer's riots and civil unrest have demonstrated anything, it is that a substantial number of young Americans have been taught to believe their country is systemically racist and thus its very system needs overhauling. Left tweaked as Trump's approval grows among African Americans
ART MOORE — The dynamic black speakers, including non-politicians from many walks of life, featured by the Republican National Convention this past week clearly are a challenge to the Democrats' "lock" on the black vote. TEXAS INSIDER — "Today, we don't recognize the Democratic Party. It has been moved so far to the left it can no longer claim to be advocates of the working class. In a move sure to strike fear and concern into the heart of the Biden Campaign -- particularly coming from a wide swath of elected officials in the traditionally Democrat state of Minnesota -- Democrats and Democrat communities across America appear to be abandoning their party's nominee, instead embracing President Trump after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris embraced much of the socialist agenda of the radical left.... CLIFF KINCAID — The fascinating book Yesterday's Man: The Case Against Joe Biden, by Branko Marcetic, is written from the perspective of a socialist doubtful that the career politician can usher in a Marxist utopia. The subtitle reflects the failure of the Bernie Sanders campaign and the fact that the hard-core Marxists are now stuck with Obama's former vice-president, a known plagiarist with brain problems, as their 2020 presidential nominee....
