Midway through Day 2 of the private auction to acquire the domain name
RenewAmerica.com, things at the auction have remained the same as
yesterday — with RenewCanada still the leading bidder, followed by
RenewAmerica.
Activity among the 34 bidders can be expected to pick up
during the last day of the auction, which is Friday.
(Note that the
auction — which originates in Washington state — is
72 hours long, and
runs from the last half of Tuesday through the first half of Friday. Hence
the "three-day" duration, even though it spans four days.)
Fundraising
goal nearly metMeanwhile, the fundraising goal set by RenewAmerica
is close to being met.
As of 7 p.m. Pacific Time Wednesday,
RenewAmerica's "auction fund" had raised
$3,826 of the $5,000 the
organization figures it needs to have on hand to win the auction. This
means donations have nearly
doubled what was in the fund when the auction
began Tuesday afternoon, leaving only
$1,174 still to be raised to
meet the $5,000 goal.
"We deeply appreciate the response of our
supporters," said RenewAmerica President Stephen Stone. "We're gratified
by the sacrifice and generosity we've witnessed in so short a time. I'd
like to give a heartfelt 'thank you' to everyone!"
Stone cautioned,
however, about being overly confident going down to the wire: "It's
possible that $5,000 won't be enough to win — although we've been given to
believe it likely will. We therefore encourage everyone to be generous
with their donations in the final hours of the auction."
"We expect some
pretty stiff competition in the final bidding," Stone added. "It would be
nice to raise more than our minimum goal — just for good
measure."
"Acquiring the
RenewAmerica.com URL would give
our efforts to take back America a real boost. It's vital that we obtain
it. Please help us do so," Stone said.
The auction ends 1 p.m.
(PT) Friday.Help make sure we win!If you've already
donated to RA's auction fund, please consider making another contribution —
since every dollar in the fund during the auction's last minutes could make a
difference. If you're considering making a donation, but haven't yet done
so, please be generous with your contribution.
