BYRON YORK — Christine Blasey Ford has no contemporaneous evidence to support her allegation that in 1982, when she was 15, a drunken, 17-year-old Brett Kavanaugh forced her onto a bed, tried to undress her, and, when she tried to scream, covered her mouth with his hand. Ford says she told no one about the alleged attack for 30 years.... (more)

WASHINGTON TIMES — Just as the perjury case against President Clinton hinged on the definition of the word "is," the leftist campaign to paint Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh as a lying, ice-throwing hothead could depend on how you define "boof." As the sexual misconduct allegations against Judge Kavanaugh remain stubbornly uncorroborated, the Democratic effort to derail his Supreme Court nomination has switched gears to more subjective criticisms of his temperament and descriptions of his youthful partying.... WASHINGTON TIMES — The White House said Wednesday that President Trump was merely "stating the facts" when he questioned the testimony of Christine Blasey Ford, who accuses Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh of sexual assault. "He was stating facts that were given during Dr. Ford's testimony," press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said of the president's comments at a campaign rally in Mississippi. Mr. Trump poked fun at Ms. Blasey Ford's inability to remember key facts about the alleged attack.... (more)

ALAN DERSHOWITZ — As a law professor for half a century, I tested the consistency and strength of my students' arguments by constructing thought experiments in the form of challenging hypothetical cases -- we called them hypos. So let's construct one to test the arguments being offered in the Kavanaugh case.... (more)

ART MOORE — A consumer fraud case against one of the nation's best-known Muslim advocacy groups, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, will go to trial early next year. A federal court in Washington, D.C., denied a motion by CAIR on Wednesday to dismiss a case brought by five Muslims who claim they were victims of a CAIR staffer who falsely claimed to be an attorney and mishandled their cases.... WASHINGTON TIMES — The Ivy League sits in deepest coastal blue, far from the battleground states that could determine which party controls the Senate next year, but that doesn't mean the academics are sitting it out. Faculty and staff at the eight elite universities have contributed more than $190,000 to campaigns of Democrats in eight races rated as toss-ups by professional oddsmakers, according to records. But only one Republican had been blessed by the Ivies as of late last month -- Sen. Ted Cruz, whose bid for re-election in Texas managed to attract $750 from one Yale University librarian.... NATIONAL REVIEW — Consider London as palimpsest: history written upon history upon history. Everywhere the pulsating new overwrites the somnolent old: The twee little mystery objects nestling in a crusty old power station at the Tate Modern, iPhone-carrying barristers wearing wigs out of the 17th century, the aggressive, glassy thrust of the Shard looming over the stolid brick buildings around Borough Market. In the financial district, the most sophisticated banking algorithms execute complex financial transactions, hard by the Tower of London, where kings once executed traitors.... (more)

ALAN KEYES — "The ball is going, going, going, high into the center field stands....and it is a home run!" (Tom Manning, calling Game 3 (Yankees vs. Cubs) of the 1932 World Series) Perhaps the most memorable boast in America's history wasn't a matter of words. The Cubs bench hooted laughter and derision as Babe Ruth defiantly pointed his finger to warn his opponents and dramatically predict to all the world what was to come. "On the next pitch, Ruth hit a home run to center field.... it was said to be one of the greatest home runs in history."... (more)

JOAN SWIRSKY — The Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus that I attended in my youth showcased acts like the freak show in which people with all sorts of bizarre physical features would attract millions of morbidly curious wide-eyed visitors. But even Tom Thumb and the Siamese twins, the bearded lady and the dog-faced boy, and the head of Medusa that "turned men into stone" had nothing on the oddities of the 2018 circus that billed itself as the U.S. Senate's Judiciary Committee's Hearing to determine if Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump's selection for the Supreme Court, is fit for that august position.... CLIFF KINCAID — Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg withdrew his nomination to the Supreme Court in 1987 after admitting that he had smoked marijuana several times. President Reagan, who nominated him, was embarrassed by the disclosures. But today's conservatives, led by the Never-Trumpers, want President Trump to sink or swim with a proud beer-drinking "conservative" nominee that the Washington insiders in the conservative legal establishment foisted on him without adequate vetting.... WASHINGTON EXAMINER — Thursday's explosive hearing pitting sexual assault accuser Christine Blasey Ford against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh surprisingly changed few minds, according to a new survey.
