Live free or die--Granite State residents put to the test

Planned Parenthood has its grips so tightly around this government's administration that it would do anything to help Planned Parenthood. This includes giving money back to the organization that the state had taken away. Today's commentary examines this egregious violation of state's rights and shows us what we can do to voice our outrage.

President Barack Obama has made commitments to many groups and special interest voting groups since his election in 2008, but none as strong as his guarantees to Planned Parenthood Federation of America. This became disturbingly clear recently when a federal funding confrontation between the state of New Hampshire and the Obama administration turned into an all-out battle for supremacy.

The state of New Hampshire recently relinquished $359,765 in family planning funds rather than give that money to Planned Parenthood. In order to deliver on his promises to Planned Parenthood, Obama defied the state of New Hampshire, its elected officials, and the will of the voters by circumventing state lawmakers in order to make sure Planned Parenthood got its blood money. By giving Planned Parenthood one million dollars, the Obama administration avoided dealing with the problem until after the 2012 elections, trampled state sovereignty, and appeased an abortion giant all in the same day. The Obama administration's official contract accompanying the federal grant states: "There is an urgent need to reinstate services with an experienced provider that is familiar with the provision of Title X family planning services and applicable laws, regulations and administrative requirements, and has a history of successfully providing services in these areas of the state."

In other words, Planned Parenthood, the sacrosanct purveyor of smut and death, is allegedly indispensible to residents of a state where the motto suggests otherwise. Granite state residents know it is better to stand up for what is right and just rather than placate the enemies of freedom. And indeed if there is one thing Planned Parenthood exemplifies in this nation today, it is an entity that employs strong-arm tactics to lure children into birth control clinics by brainwashing them with how-to lessons on expressing their sexuality without accepting consequences. Planned Parenthood guides its clientele through the wasteland of contraceptive use and, if necessary, abortion. Planned Parenthood does these things with an eye toward the fiscal bottom line, never looking back at the human destruction left in its wake. It's not about freedom based on the dignity of the human person at Planned Parenthood, it's all about money and power.

Such practices are the antithesis of all that it means to be an American; they are bullying tactics, pure and simple. But states are becoming less and less interested in fueling the Planned Parenthood engines, regardless of what the Obama administration imposes.

Thus far, at least eight states have voted to put Planned Parenthood out of the abortion business in their jurisdictions "'including Texas, New Jersey, Tennessee and Wisconsin,' reported Reuters. The news agency added, 'Federal judges have ordered North Carolina, Kansas and Indiana to halt such moves after Planned Parenthood filed suit in those states.'"

The continued attempts to rid states of the poison spewed by Planned Parenthood are escalating and Planned Parenthood is on the losing end of this movement to express state sovereignty. However, as Professor Michael New suggests, "The Obama administration's actions show that pro-lifers would do well to renew their push to defund Planned Parenthood at the federal level."

American Life League's Stop Planned Parenthood International has been working for nearly 30 years to make that goal a reality. Defunding Planned Parenthood at the federal level is the only real answer to cutting off the head and the tail of a serpent that is so cleverly entrenched in the federal government that nothing short of a fund cutoff will effect the change we want to see occur. Please join us today in that effort.
