"Strive to be the greatest man in your country, and you may be disappointed. Strive to be the best and you may succeed: he may well win the race who runs by himself."Benjamin Franklin www.RenewAmerica.com/columns/Dahlgren/090209 ("Reining in the 'pale horse' of the theocratic fundamentalist Greenies")

THE EARTH WAS CREATED TO WORK FOR US, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. The Promised Land was a land of milk-and-honey, a land of babbling brooks as well as a "land of wheat and barley and vines . . a land wherein you will eat bread without scarceness, . . a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper." — Deuteronomy 8:7-9

I'm going on 68 years of age, and I tell people that I've been working for almost 70 years, because I was born on a dairy farm — a farm that produced milk-and-honey (maple syrup). When I retired and moved north to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I had no idea that I would land — literally — on a gold mine. We now know that there is gold, silver, copper, and zinc one mile north of my driveway. The geologists also drilled test bores next door to my property. There are valuable minerals under the land God gave us here, but the amazing thing is that there are people dedicating their lives to keeping that stuff buried underground.

What can a person do, when facing down illogical, emotional, feeble sophistry? This is the year, and this is the time — 2010 — when every person is being tested. When God asks you someday, "What did you DO — when America was circling the drain — when your leaders fiddled while you burned?"

ONE THING WE CAN ALL DO: WRITE A LETTER TO OUR LOCAL EDITOR. I recently had the following letter published in the Menominee County (Michigan) Journal:

To the Menominee County Journal:

Some MCJ letter writers could stand to look in the mirror. For expressing my opinion on the extreme-green movement, I've had the pleasure of having letter writers publicly insinuate that I am ill-informed, living in 1910, a bully, a harasser, a liar, a name-caller, and a defender of companies that "rape, pillage, and plunder."

I'm not complaining because I realize that they wouldn't have written those replies if my letters hadn't been effective. However, I must clarify one tiny little thing: the headline on my recent letter. It read: "Opposed to extreme environmentalism because it's anti-business and anti-pollution."

Very funny. I'm not actually pro-pollution. What I had written was:

Extreme environmentalism is anit-business first and anti-pollution "second." I thought that was easy enough to understand, but I guess anything that can be misunderstood "will" be misunderstood. Obviously I was saying that national and international green organizations are mainly anti-capitalist — and they use environmental issues (some real and some imaginary) to advance their anti-capitalist agendas.

For fifteen years or so they have been trying to make something out of "climate change" or "man-made" global warming, and to "cash in" on it, so to speak. Alas, two-thirds of the American people believe that Al Gore & Co. are full of the stuff that pollutes.

Based on a couple of recent local conversations, however, I'm afraid some people around here still think that the polar bears are drowning and we're ready to offer Alaskan cruises off the North Slope. Actually — factually — the past two cold winters have closed up the Arctic ice to virtually average conditions (whether the media want to admit it or not).

If local "green" writers wish to be better informed and not fooled by lies, just go to www.climatedepot.com or some of the following books:

"State of Fear" by Michael Crichton; "Blue Planet, Green Shackles" by Vaclav Klaus (president of Czech Republic); "Green Hell" by Steve Milloy; "The Real Global Warming Disaster" by Christopher Booker; "Air Con: The Inconvenient Truth About Global Warming" by Ian Wishart; "Climate Confusion" by Dr. Roy Spencer; "The Deniers" by Lawrence Solomon; "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism" by Christopher Horner; or his latest book, "Red Hot Lies; How Global Warming Alarmists Use Threats, Fraud, and Deception to Keep You Misinformed." **

The latter is available through the Stephenson Library, as is the 2004 Crichton book, which is a 570-plus page novel. If you don't have time to read the whole thing, take a look the "Author's Message" at the end. Among other things, Crichton says:

- "We are . . in the midst of a natural warming trend that began about 1850, as we emerged from a four-hundred-year cold spell known as the 'Little Ice Age' . . . Nobody knows how much of the present warming trend might be a natural phenomenon."

- "I think for anyone to believe in impending resource scarcity, after two hundred years of such false alarms, is kind of weird. I don't know whether such belief today is best ascribed to ignorance of history, slerotic [sp] dogmatism, unhealthy love of Malthus, or simple pigheadedness." [end quote]

P.S. Average global temperatures have actually gone down somewhat since Crichton wrote those words in 2004. So who is bullying whom? Who's being "pigheaded"?

** PPS: "TRUTH IS MARCHING":

Christopher Horner has yet another great book out on the market: "POWER GRAB; HOW OBAMA'S GREEN POLICIES WILL STEAL YOUR FREEDOM AND BANKRUPT AMERICA."

"Horner shows how Obama and the far-Left fanatics with whom he has surrounded himself want to seize critical decisions about our energy and environment from American citizens and hand them over to liberal politicians, wacko environmentalist groups, and foreign governments who do not have the best interests of Americans at heart." — Conservative Book Club [another book to be highly recommended to you is "The Great Global Warming Blunder; How Mother Nature Fooled the World's Top Climate Scientists," by Dr. Roy Spencer]

CONCLUSION?

In 2008 America proved that it is not a "racist" country, but in 2010 America will prove whether or not it is a STUPID COUNTRY.

PPPS: By the way, I saw snow and sleet while driving to Marquette, Michigan on Wednesday April 21 (day before Earth Day). I had frost three days in a row this week. Never mind Waldo; where's the Global Warming?

The quotation-of-the-week was by Michael Savage. He said that there's going to be a SAT tax (not VAT tax). The SAT tax will be a "Sexual Activity Tax." The government will put a meter on your bed to charge you so much for every movement of your bed.

The government taxes everything else, so why not? After all, heavy breathing contributes a lot of carbon dioxide to the stratosphere, and that's going to kill us all. EH??
