The divided states of America

"And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand." (Mark 3:24-25 KJV)

America is more divided today than ever before! Powerful forces, seen and unseen, are working overtime to pit citizen against citizen, class against class, and race against race. The ideas and beliefs that built this nation are now deemed outmoded, and have been replaced with radical, Marxist concepts. Our Constitution is being shredded, often by our elected representatives. Consequently, our nation is becoming a mere shadow of its former self. We are no longer the United States; rather, we have become the Divided States of America.

The 1960s is when we started to deviate far from our roots. We began replacing "we" with "me" and also started looking for new things/people to worship instead of the God of the Bible. In short, society and culture turned into a free-for-all where anarchy and rebellion reigned. And sadly, leadership in colleges, corporations, and even government did not know how to combat the problem. So, many of these weak-kneed "leaders" took the easiest path: they surrendered. Egged on by outside socialist/communist influences, these loony, drugged, crazed youth got everything they demanded.

Here we are in 2019 where our leaders in business, industry, and government are still weak-kneed and unable to do the right thing simply because it is right, instead choosing to give in to every whim, whimper, and whine from an increasingly selfish and self-centered people who care absolutely nothing about the good of the country.

Understanding this, my thoughts take me back to January 3rd of this year when I watched the coverage of opening ceremonies of the 116th Congress of the United States. I was left with several "impressions" from the events. It is reassuring to see how our nation peaceably transfers the role of "leadership" between political parties; however, it is frightening to see the devolution of quality of said leaders and representatives.

Perhaps I am old-fashioned, but to me there should be a sense of dignity to how people dress and comport themselves in such places as the U. S. Congress. I have actually been to previous new congressional openings and swearing-in ceremonies, back in the recent old days of dignity and respect. Things are truly different now, at least for the new, more radical Left.

Seeming totally out of place were pink/purple hair, the lack of maturity in behavior, childish and un-educated speech/vocabulary, and provocative dress. I had a vision of some of the members smoking joints in the congressional cloak room! This is at the same time Nancy Pelosi was recapturing the house gavel and proclaiming she was equal to the President.

When she made that particularly arrogant comment, I had another impression that soon everyone would be calling her Queen Nancy.

Perhaps coincidentally, at the State of the Union address, she was wearing a sizeable scepter pin on her lapel. Such a symbol is usually related to royalty.

Nonetheless, my concluding thoughts after viewing the congressional festivities were that within a year there would be some sort of political rebellion. A frightening and distinct impression was that America will be a full-blown socialist nation within the next 30 years.

So, how can this happen? It goes back to the nation divided not being able to stand.

Within weeks after the new congress convened, we began being subjected to some of the most insane drivel, even hatred, to be spewed in years. And over the months it has only gotten worse.

Granted, most sane people know that what people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are espousing is what the Radical Left truly believes. Not only have she and her "squad" of America-haters fully captured the attention of our mass media – they are the main event! They are forcing all the Left to either denounce or stand behind them. The rhetoric has now surpassed even that of Senator Bernie Sanders.

It is true that Comrade Bernie openly speaks of his plans to change America into a communist paradise. He doesn't try to hide who he really is, and until 2016, nobody would have dreamed he would get so close to THE platform that might allow him to fulfill his dreams. Then we remember all too well how Barack Obama planned to "fundamentally transform America," and accomplished much towards that goal – socialism.

The fact that the whole Democratic Party now seems to be openly espousing socialism/communism should be a warning alarm to all Americans! The so-called squad of immature "representatives" is quite possibly a group of puppets being used to push an agenda. (Although a couple of them seem to genuinely hate America.) They are expendable, whereas those socialists and Deep State types in both parties that have been in power for decades can't express their true hopes for America – they can't risk losing their seats and power!

It seems that We the People should be looking for, and then electing only the best and the brightest to represent us in our government – at all levels. So, I ask: Are the examples listed in the above discussion the best we can do?

Yes, I do believe choices from the Right are more grounded. For the most part, Republicans still believe in and honor our Constitution. The other side has worked diligently to shred and destroy that founding document. The one fundamental trait ALL politicians should have in common is the desire to put America and Americans first. Period. All congressional representatives and senators take an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. The good of our country and ALL citizens is more important than granting the wishes and whims of every whiner that overrides the dictates within that Constitution!

Remember from the above discussion what happened back in the 1960s? For many of today's politicians, it seems that gaining a seat in congress makes them fairy godmothers/godfathers who are supposed to grant all wishes to certain groups because these satisfied (bribed) people will vote to re-elect them. (One compelling reason for term limits is that bribery can only work for a short period of time.)

Back in the 60s when our corporate leaders and college presidents caved to all the crybabies, they thought that would end the turmoil. Guess what? It didn't. This reminds me of lyrics from a 1981 song:
Give the people what they want
    By the Kinks

Give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
The more they get, the more they need
And every time they get harder and harder to please

Lyrics in a 1975 song, Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication, by Parliament are equally prescient:
    Give the people what they want and they wants it all the time;
give the people what they need when they need, and the need is
    yours and mine.

People are never satisfied. They will want more and more and more, and don't care who must pay for those wants and needs. And the Radical Left is famous for taking from those they call the "haves" to give to the "have nots." This, dear friends, is called redistribution of wealth. Furthermore, it is socialism.

However, there are major problems with socialism. Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher, once quipped, "the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." So true. Of course, hundreds of millions of people have died under socialist regimes. This system isn't just about money – it's about total control of the people.

Sadly, a growing number of people in America have lost the work ethic and have bought into the lie that America owes them a living. Hardworking people are fed up with the government demanding increasing amounts of their money to give to other people. If our federal government was following the Constitution, it would be working to provide a level playing field and opportunity for ALL Americans to succeed in their dreams. By the way, that is exactly what President Trump has been doing.

Unfortunately, powers in high places, including our own government, are using the old formula of "divide and conquer" against We the People. They know that if we are not united in common cause, we are weakened. Worse yet, we are letting them get by with it. If we don't stop them, this nation will fall.

From the standpoint of government, we continue to elect the same people for decades thinking circumstances will change. Large numbers of these elected officials simply care about the next voting cycle. Remember, the longer they are in office, the more power and money they accrue, and the poorer and less free we become.

Are we going to continue being the United States of America, or will we become the Divided States of America that will soon become extinct? Or socialist? It is entirely up to us. To anyone willing to hear....
