Barack Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder has decided to appoint a special prosecutor — a Mr. John Durham — to look into possible crimes committed by CIA employees and contractors in their handling of terror suspects throughout the Bush presidency.

Said Holder: "I fully realize that my decision to commence this preliminary review will be controversial. As Attorney General, my duty is to examine the facts and to follow the law. In this case, given all of the information currently available, it is clear to me that this review is the only responsible course of action for me to take."

Now, if you choose to believe that the Attorney General took it upon himself to launch this investigation — and not because of a White House directive from a certain someone whose first name begins with "B" and last name with "O" — then Elvis Presley is bartending in La Paz, Mexico, serving shots of Cuervo Gold with a beer chaser to Jim Morrison.

Everyone knows, or everyone should know, that this is: a bone thrown by this White House to the deranged Left that infests today's Democratic Party, and: this is totally President Obama's decision.

Trying to convey a message of "moving forward" and not "looking backwards" is laughable when all this administration does is play the Bush/Cheney card whenever things get beyond its ability to control. Why should America's security concerns be any different?

But a politically brutal August in which his health care bill was exposed as de facto government-run health care have produced sagging poll numbers, and major grumblings from the faithful. These realities have propelled Obama to appease his Party's raw-boned liberals, lest he lose them as well.

After all, the debacle that is ObamaCare has shaken the Netroots and kooks everywhere. The anger expressed by the faithful — if one cares to wade through the caustic meanderings posted on Democratic web sites — is nothing short of furious.

So what to do? Easy. Play that Bush/Cheney card I mentioned, and in the process, smear another of the Left's boogie men, the CIA.

Now, here's where I get into a bit of trouble. It's just plain hard to put into words what I feel, and the majority of Americans, I believe, feel when I think of what may happen. There will be accusations. There will be statements of convenience by high-ranking government officials. There may even possibly be show trials.

In short, there will be blood. Political blood, but blood nevertheless. Firing guns into the air; mock executions; running power tools and the like; this constitutes torture?

Please folks. College sorority pledges have a tougher time of it then these Islamic terrorists that killed thousands on 9/11 and before. In the days after 9/11, it was perfectly understood — if not an absolute certainty — that terrorists were going to try to hit the U.S. again. Bush knew this, as did Congress, no matter what House Leader Nancy Pelosi chooses to remember. More than anyone, the CIA knew this.

The CIA, under the direction and supervision of the Bush administration, the Department of Justice, Congress, and medical specialists, did what needed to be done in order to protect the country. As we approach the eight-year anniversary of 9/11, terrorists have still been unable to attack America again.

And how did America respond to this small miracle? It elected a president who is part of a Party that hates American military might and intelligence, and they in turn proceed with a favorite pastime among its rank and file, the all-too popular political witch hunt.

President Obama, surely you are a small, small man upon the largest of the world's stages. To direct your A.G. to compromise the entire security of the country for the sake of propping up your drifting popularity among those that voted for you is an effort worthy of a true political invertebrate.

These men of the CIA should be awarded medals and commendations for their efforts to protect America — and incidentally, that means you and yours.

Eight months into this failed presidency, I had believed that you were naïve to the political realities of the country — especially security concerns. Now, I believe that you are surely a vindictive man of small abilities, and possibly a dangerous man as well. At this rate, America will once again feel the terrible stroke of terrorism, and a nation will be reminded of a hate that has a terrible patience...a hate that waits for its opportunity.

If you persist in your present course, you will be that opportunity, President Obama. You will demonstrate to the wolves that wait for nightfall that not only have you forgotten 9/11, but you punish those who have not.

On September 10, 2006, then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stated to Fox News host Chris Wallace: "I think it's clear that we are safe — safer, but not really yet safe."

What is it about that statement that you do not understand as it pertains to the realities of today, Mr. President?
