NEWSMAX — The panel investigating the shooting massacre at a Florida high school earlier this year recommends arming teachers to stop future shootings. According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School panel's suggestions to improve school security include putting guns into the hands of teachers, beefing up security, and employing better law enforcement tactics.... NEWSMAX — The resource officer who failed to confront alleged mass murderer Nikolas Cruz on the campus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida last February asked a judge to find he had no legal duty to protect the students and faculty from any harm, but his argument was rejected and a wrongful death lawsuit filed against him will move forward, CBS WFOR reports.... NEWSMAX — The Boy Scouts of America may soon declare bankruptcy as lawsuits over sexual abuse pile up and membership figures continue to dwindle, The Wall Street Journal reports. The group plans to "explore all options available to ensure that the local and national programming of the Boy Scouts of America continues uninterrupted," according to a letter sent to its employees Wednesday and acquired by the Journal.... WASHINGTON TIMES — President Trump said Tuesday he would be "proud" to shut the government down unless he gets a massive infusion of cash to build his border wall, and suggested if Congress doesn't concede, he would use the military to erect more fencing anyway. Democrats on Capitol Hill said the president would be creating a constitutional crisis if he tries to rope the Pentagon into his wall plans over the objection of Congress -- and countered with red lines of their own, saying they won't pony up a single new dollar for Trump-style border security.... ART MOORE — An email indicating Google attempted to boost the Latino vote in "key states" during the 2016 election put Google CEO Sundar Pichai on the spot during a House hearing on Tuesday. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, after citing the email, pointed out to the CEO that he had testified just minutes before that he leads the company "without political bias" and works "to ensure that our products work that way."... NATIONAL REVIEW — Your Royal Highness: Permit me to express my appreciation to you for taking part in this ceremony. Your participation lends special dignity to these proceedings. This is the first time that the Templeton Prize has been awarded to an Orthodox Christian. With gratitude that our share in the religious life of the world has now been accorded notice, I remain acutely conscious of my personal unworthiness to receive this award as I look back upon the venerable line of outstanding Orthodox churchmen and of Orthodox thinkers from Aleksey Khomyakov to Sergei Bulgakov.... WASHINGTON TIMES — Former Arizona lawman Joe Arpaio is suing CNN, accusing the cable outlet of inaccurately labeling him a "felon" in a broadcast and having made no efforts to correct its mistake. Mr. Arpaio was found guilty of a misdemeanor contempt of court last year, not a felony -- and was quickly pardoned by President Trump. He has asked the courts to expunge his original misdemeanor conviction, in a case that's still pending.... (more)

WASHINGTON TIMES — The Environmental Protection Agency moved Tuesday to scale back the Obama-era Waters of the United States rule, a policy embraced by environmentalists but denounced by critics as a power grab that placed even potholes and puddles under federal control. In the Trump administration's latest strike on federal regulations, the EPA proposed redefining "waters of the United States" in a way that would draw a clear line between navigable waterways under federal versus state control.... CLICK ON DETROIT — On Tuesday, LARA officials said the cemetery is improperly storing more than 300 uncremated remains of infants and fetuses in multiple crypts. The remains dated as far back as 2009. Officials said the remains were entombed collectively in multiple crypts that were repeatedly opened and added to by cemetery workers. The remains were not buried or cremated, contrary to the final disposition indicated on forms, officials said.... (more)

ALAN KEYES — Readers familiar with my writings know that I have criticized the economic model that allows Facebook and Twitter to amass billions of dollars in profits exploiting the activities of their users. Users are in many respects like the movie production companies. Facebook and Twitter provide accommodations for sharing their productions with others. But unlike movie production companies, Facebook and Twitter users receive no share of the profits those companies make off their productions.... (more)

CLIFF KINCAID — Citizen journalist David Risselada has written a book, Psychopolitics in America: A Nation Under Conquest, in which he explains how so many are being led astray by what passes for the "conservative media." Consider the case of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was sold by Fox News and other beltway groups as a conservative pro-lifer. After Kavanaugh's Monday ruling in favor of Planned Parenthood, many grassroots conservatives are beginning to realize they were misled about his real record. One conservative website called it a "betrayal."... (more)

DAILY CALLER — The Supreme Court declined to review three cases relating to Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood at the state level Monday, over a vigorous dissent from Justice Clarence Thomas. The dissent was significant because it indicates that Justice Brett Kavanaugh sided with the high court's liberal wing to deny review of a lower court decision that favored the nation's largest abortion provider.... JOSEPH FARAH — I hate to say it, but I saw this one coming. When President Trump selected Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court, I knew it was at least a very risky pick. But he won the hearts of conservatives because of the insanity of the opposition.... (more)

JERRY NEWCOMBE — Two separate sources recently questioned the historicity of Jesus. But let us set the record straight. First, on a comedy show on TBS, "The Guestbook," just before Christmastime, one of the characters likened belief in Jesus to belief in Santa. The episode is called "Tonight you become a man" -- where a character supposedly becomes an adult by realizing Santa and Jesus are just myths.... (more)

THE HILL — Many people I know in law enforcement circles shuddered when James Comey tweeted recently that acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker "may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer." To them, Comey's Twitter attack crossed that "blue line" -- the one that real cops abide by, to never criticize fellow officers and to always have their backs.... (more)

DAILY SIGNAL — President Donald Trump's nomination of Heather Nauert is an excellent choice to replace Nikki Haley as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, analysts say. ROBERT KNIGHT — Over the past few decades, secularists and leftists have mounted an aggressive effort to suppress Christianity's historical and current importance in America, and place all religions -- or no religion -- on the same level. A national survey taken in late November by Grinnell College indicates that they have been wildly successful. For example, city dwellers, young people and women are far more supportive of Muslims than of Christians. Sixty-eight percent of Democrats said employers should grant a request for prayer space by Muslims -- but only 45 percent said employers should grant a similar request by Christians.... (more)

ANDREW C. MCCARTHY — In 2007, the Justice Department was in disarray. Though it was largely exaggerated, a controversy over the firing of some United States attorneys, the intrusion of politics into Justice Department hiring decisions, and White House contacts with Main Justice forced the resignation of an overmatched attorney general, Alberto Gonzales....
