Amnesty, why?

Hello again Renew America family! Yes, I have been away for a while, but not of my own choosing. I unfortunately caught one of the "super bugs" in January, and became quite ill with relapse upon relapse. The usual antibiotics weren't effective on this new illness. By March I was so weakened and ill that I got a particularly virulent strain of bacterial pneumonia that put me in the hospital for 12 days, and again in April for six days. I almost died.

While I am not 100% healthy yet, I thank God that I am still here. Because I was so sick for so long, I wasn't able to do my usual research and study, let alone write. But in the past week I have gotten back up to speed on some serious issues, and the Lord is showing me it is time to do what He called me to do: to sound the warning alarm.

Obviously, those of you who use Renew America as a source of information already know much of what is happening in the world. Sometimes it is easy to think that when we RA columnists write, it is like preaching to the choir. However, God has been showing me that when He calls us to do something – in my case, write this column – we are to simply do it. We need not worry or fret about the results. That is God's job. And today, this watch-woman on the wall is sending another wake-up call for America.

Just like my illness has lingered on for almost half a year, America has an illness that keeps lingering on. My illness seemed to continually "morph" into different forms. America's illness is doing the same. My illness stemmed from some powerful bacterial and viral organisms. America's sickness stems from a powerful, corrupt, bloated, above-the-law, out-of-control federal government. This sickness has a name: Tyranny. This "disease" seeks total control and power over the "body" (We the People). If this body doesn't fight back harder against the disease, it will indeed be rendered powerless – even unto death.

Question: Can America actually die? It has happened to numerous great nations throughout history. What makes us think such a fate can't happen to us? Have we become so arrogant that we believe we are so much wiser and better than those who have gone before? Answer: Yes. At least our so- called government leaders think that way. In general, today's government is populated by a bunch of arrogant, proud, strutting peacocks. They avail themselves to every opportunity of self-aggrandizement.

The immediate issue to consider is the Amnesty Bill our illustrious US Senate is going to ram through to a vote tomorrow. We the People have been hearing over and over ad nauseam that our immigration laws are broken. If they are broken, it is because of our elected officials. The truth is that comprehensive immigration law is already in place. Unfortunately, our government refuses to enforce it. And if individual states try to protect themselves when the feds fail to do their job, they are sued by the same federal government.

We are told the main reason for this new legislation is to allow current illegal immigrants the ability to come out of the shadows they have to live in because of the illegal status they brought unto themselves. Our leaders say we have to legalize the children of illegals – it just isn't fair for them to be branded as illegal when they weren't responsible for their plight. Hey, life isn't fair. Why should they benefit from the illegal actions of their parents? So what is being proposed is really blanket amnesty. Yes, it is. According to the man seen as a sort of savior to the Republican Party, Senator Marco Rubio, "Earned citizenship is basic code for amnesty." At least, that is what he said in 2010 during his election campaign.

The last time blanket amnesty was granted to illegal aliens was under President Reagan in 1986. One of the major cheerleaders for amnesty was the late Senator Ted Kennedy, who convinced Reagan to support the bill. In debates on the issue, he said, "The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission." (Uh huh, and can anyone say: Press one for English.) He also said, "This amnesty will give citizenship to only 1.1 to 1.3 million illegal aliens. We will secure the borders henceforth. We will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this." (Uh, the number was reportedly 3 million. And the borders still aren't secured.)

Many of the legislators responsible for the last failed immigration law are also responsible for the current proposed law. The kind of law they would never bring forward again is being brought forth by many of the same people, particularly in the Senate. You see, once our senators get elected, they get so much power that it is nearly impossible to get rid of them. Two names come to mind: Robert Byrd and Ted Kennedy. While it is off the subject, I just have to ask...How is it that Paula Deen gets fired for uttering a racial epithet, but Byrd who was in the KKK, the group that burns crosses in the yards of black people, and even used to lynch them, served in the US Senate for 51 years. (Things that make you go, Hmmmmm.)

I wrote to my senators and congressman this week. As usual, the responses from the senators were the most condescending. They basically say the issue of immigration policy is too complex for mere mortals, those like We the People, to understand. Quite frankly, that makes me fighting mad. They can't enforce existing laws, secure the borders as promised in 1986 and again in 2006, or put America and its interests above all else. How can we possibly believe new laws will deliver different results?

Our federal government needs to have power over We the People. We elect our legislators based on what they tell us they are going to do. When they get in office, they do what they want to do – and generally, that is based on what makes them look good, get rich and powerful, or stay in office. We the People have been repeatedly fooled into thinking these people can be trusted, so we vote them into office, and then go our merry ways hoping everything will be okay. But it is NOT okay. We MUST begin to hold them accountable.

The main purpose of the Federal Government is to provide for the security of our nation against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. After 9-11, border security should be at the top of the list. Without borders, there is no nation. And what's wrong with a fence? La Raza and the Lefties think it is an insult to citizens of Mexico that America should put a fence between our countries. There is a saying that good fences make good neighbors. Ask Israel, or the average homeowner in any community in America. And by the way...Did you know that in 2011, American taxpayers gave over $11 million to the National Council of La Raza, and over $18 million to Chicanos Por La Causa? (Source: the Blaze) And then these groups spend big bucks to lobby against American policy. Hmmmm....

The current immigration legislation is being rammed through the US Senate just like Obamacare. Ask yourself why. Perhaps our lawmakers don't want We the People to know what is hidden in the 1075 page, 24 pound behemoth. And it must be asked just how these legislators have the time to read, study, and understand such a bill. The obvious answer is that they don't have the time, nor do they really care. As Nancy Pelosi said about the Obamacare bill, "We Have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." Fellow citizens, such statements truly demonstrate the lack of respect our lawmakers have for We the People.

And what about the "welfare" programs we are assured the illegal immigrants won't get during their "probationary period" before becoming legalized? Or the fact these folks cannot vote until they are legalized? Not to worry. There are bleeding heart liberals already working all that out. The more welfare the Democratic Party can give to these illegals, the more beholden they will be to their benefactors. And the faster these illegal aliens can vote, well, the faster America will become a nation of one-party leadership. Then there will be only two classes – the Rulers and the Ruled. Mr. Obama said he was going to fundamentally change America. Wake up people! It is already happening.

A sickness named Tyranny is ravaging the body – America. We have to fight with all our strength to overcome this disease. The alternative is death to America as we know it. And right now it is time to call or email our lawmakers and briefly remind them who their constituents are. It is not their role to be saviors to all the impoverished of the world. We need them to protect their own citizens first. Secure our borders first against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. After all, that's their main duty. To anyone willing to hear....
