Christmas Night 1776, the War for Independence against the mighty British Nation was at a desperate turning point. As the war seemed lost, General Washington drew up plans for a bold last ditch attack on the mercenary Hessian forces near Trenton.
In the midst of that centuries’ most ice laden brutal storms, Washington’s Army marched toward waiting boats, many barefoot and freezing. Horses and men slipping perilously in the black night as they crossed the Delaware.
Three hours behind schedule, as cover of darkness faded, still they forged fearlessly ahead. Their password for the night was…Victory or Death.
The unexpected surprise attack startled German mercenaries who were not expecting the size of forces rampaging through their camp at dawn. The raging storm seemed to make it an impossible task. Savage hand to hand combat ensued and the Germans were quickly defeated.
