Has America finally sealed her fate?

It is clear that our federal government is hell-bent on equalizing the playing field between what they call the rich and poor. But as I explained in my last column, they are really trying to take from the "makers" to give to the "takers." It IS redistribution of wealth, and IS Socialism.

It is utterly amazing to many of us that success is actually getting punished in America. The whole idea behind the founding of America is freedom. It was not just about religious freedom, but freedom to rule our own lives. According to the Declaration of Independence, "All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." So for too long, the people we have elected have been stealing our most foundational, "unalienable" rights by allowing the killing of millions of citizens through abortion. They have made us into subjects and slaves to the State, instead of free men. And they have taken our property through either outright confiscation, or crippling taxes — making it difficult to pursue happiness.

The last point about property is rather mind-boggling. Consider this: A man works hard for his wages. The government taxes those wages every possible way it can. With what's left, this person then decides to purchase property, let's say land. This man is now the owner of land — lock, stock, and barrel. It's his — so why does the government have the right to tax him? Now if this person doesn't pay the taxes on the land that he paid for and owns, the government will confiscate his property — over which they have no right of ownership. And if the man still owns his land when he dies, his family will be taxed again on land over which the government still has no right of ownership. This piece of property is now assessed with death and inheritance taxes of over 50 percent. But the saga continues as the government will tax the family on the land on and on into infinity.

Listen folks, we have lost our ability to pursue happiness and build comfortable lives for ourselves — yes, even fortunes. And hey, fortunes come in all sizes. Some fortunes are a small home with a picket fence and a car in the garage. Others are mansions with swimming pools, multiple cars in the garage, and an airplane. This is America. Like the question at the end of the movie Pretty Woman...what's your dream? We are the land where dreams can be achieved, not by someone giving us something, or from government handouts, but through personal desire, drive, and determination. And it is hard enough to fulfill our own dreams without having to pay for our neighbor's dream as well. Don't you agree? And by the way...those government handouts are not paid for by the government. We the People pay for them.

To review, in 2010, only 85million out of 313+ million Americans paid federal taxes. A shocking 93.3 percent of that burden was paid by people making over $50,000. That leaves 228 million citizens paying next to nothing, and then getting rebates. Out of this latter group we get most of the people who want the government to be doing more for, and giving more to them. Why don't these takers have to contribute something?

Our national debt is MASSIVE...to the tune of $15 trillion. Economists say there is NO possible way enough taxes can be raised to get us out of this situation. And yes, it must be said again that We the People have been complicit in creating this mess — a monumental, catastrophic mess that may finally break America's proverbial back. How were we complicit? We failed to stop it.

Once upon a time, our nation's leaders were men of integrity. Our Founding Fathers were willing to give everything in the establishment of this great nation. In seeking to make us "free and independent states," the final words of the Declaration of Independence end with these words: "We mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor." In some cases, these men did relinquish their lives and fortunes. But never did they relinquish their honor. That cannot be said about many of today's leaders.

We used to scrutinize people to whom we were entrusting our liberty. Over time, however, we have become increasingly lazy in this regard. And now, instead of acting within the clear perimeters established in our Constitution, our elected officials have taken over our lives. Despite many voices sounding warning alarms, and urging us to re-assume authority over our own lives and affairs, we have failed to take heed. Instead, we have chosen to eat, drink, and be merry, not realizing that tomorrow our nation might die.

What can we do?

It is said the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over, but expecting different results. Dear fellow Americans, it is clear we have to change what we are doing. And that is not Obama-style change. We have to put a stop to the way, way, way out-of-control spending in Washington. But this problem is not just from our current Spender-in-Chief — it includes Congress. Spending is supposed to originate in the House of Representatives. So we need to seriously scrutinize what these folks are thinking, and then doing. Unfortunately, Mr. Obama has been usurping the authority of Congress in passing Executive Orders that include spending. This man thinks he is the king who can do anything he wants. Only We the People can stop him, but do we have the guts to do so?

The "welfare state" and "something for nothing" mentality has rapidly grown under this president. Many of us fear that the American will to fight has dramatically dwindled. Growing numbers of hardworking citizens are slowly starting to give up, thinking it is inevitable the government will win. Like vultures hovering over dying prey, the Looney Left is watching and salivating, waiting for us to collapse so they can swoop in to deal the final death blow.

Have we then finally sealed our fate as a nation? We either work to restore America to the Land of Liberty, or we will become the United Socialist States of America. We will discuss some plans of action next time... In the meantime, there are some things we can do.

First, we can pray for President Obama. The Bible teaches us to pray for our nation's leaders, and even for our enemies. In this case, whether or not we like him, he is the President. And yes, he is the enemy of our freedom. So on two counts, we've got to pray. We also need to pray that all Americans will wake-up and understand that we indeed have unalienable rights granted by our Creator, and that these rights should not be violated. We need to pray that enough people will begin to understand the importance of restoring our nation to the Constitutional Republic it was meant to be. Last, we need to pray that America again becomes One Nation Under God. God has immensely blessed us because we honored Him. He can easily remove that blessing if we continue to disregard Him and His principles. Until next time, to anyone willing to hear....
