Restoring one nation under God -- Christians' role, Part Three

We are still One Nation Under God...We declare it on our money, right? But one important question must be asked: What God?

The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution reads:
    "We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
In the dumb-downed America of 2012, most citizens haven't read these words since high school, let alone understand their meaning. Simply put, government exists to preserve our liberty. And the "Blessings of Liberty" come from our Father in heaven, as declared in our Declaration of Independence.

Today, unfortunately, far too many people take their liberty and freedom for granted. Instead of taking personal responsibility for our own lives, a majority of us have abdicated these responsibilities to the government, at all levels. The one part of the government we have allowed to have increasing control over us is the Federal government. Our founders were adamant in writing our Constitution that the powers of federal government are limited and finite. Unfortunately, We the People haven't demanded that our government operate within its boundaries, and now the government is a leviathan that is totally out of control. There is little hope of containing this monster.

What is worse for America is that many Christians have abdicated their responsibilities with all the rest of humanity. God gave us our liberty, and a bountiful, beautiful land in which to live and prosper. He asked that we give Him all the glory and honor. He asked that we serve Him, and tell others about Him that they, too, would be able to enjoy the abundance of God. Sadly, we began to forget "from whom all blessings flow," and began to believe the political drivel from our elected officials. Instead of serving We the People, these elected officials now think it is their duty to run every area of our lives, down to the very flushing of our toilets. Many of them now even consider themselves as gods. And what do We the People do? We bow down to them and enable them to be gods, even while they try to erase or denigrate every vestige of the One True God.

As we have previously discussed, Christians comprise an overwhelming majority of people in the United States. Logic tells us this majority should have a pretty profound effect on society. Wrong. For a variety of reasons, a majority of Christians have been silent as our Judeo-Christian heritage and faith have been pummeled by secular society. We have been made to believe that we should not be involved in "politics." However, politics is now present in EVERY area of our lives. And if Christians don't get involved in determining how we live our lives and raise our children, or how we plot the future of our nation, then who will be deciding these things? Two forces vie for control — good or evil. If good isn't participating, evil will be. Did your pastor tell you this when he said you shouldn't get involved in such "worldly" ventures as politics? Hmmmm? Hey, the forces of evil are not concerned with preserving anything belonging to God. Our enemy, Satan, comes to "steal, kill, and destroy." (John 10:10)

Our founding fathers knew that a God-fearing citizenry was needed to protect against the influence of evil forces, perpetuated by evil men. Patrick Henry said:
    "Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains. A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom. No free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue; and by a frequent recurrence to fundamental principles."
We are a nation with a vitiated state of morals. The public conscience is corrupted. The true meaning of justice has been twisted like a pretzel to mean whatever the ruler of the day desires. A majority of Americans do not practice moderation, temperance, or frugality. And virtue? What a joke? And yes, even within the Church. So the current state of our nation is abysmal. And yet, some people still ask that God bless America.

Dear fellow Christians, instead of blessing us as a nation, I believe God is getting ready to judge us — that is, if He hasn't already started the process. Christians are called to live our lives led by the Spirit of God. The Bible tells us that our old sinful nature, before we accepted Jesus as our Savior, "loves to do evil." (Gal. 5:17) But in Christ, we are led by the Spirit to live according to God's ways. We always have a choice to choose how we respond to God's directions. But if we choose to give in to our old fleshly ways, the results won't be good.

God has been gradually lifting His hand of protection from America. When God removes his "hedge of protection," Satan is allowed more reign. But God hasn't delivered the judgment we deserve because there are still God-fearing, obedient, faithful believers in Jesus Christ. Even before destroying Sodom and Gomorrah, the Lord told Abraham that for the sake of ten righteous people, He would not destroy Sodom. (Gen. 18:33) So in God's abundant grace, America is saved from total destruction. For now.

Unfortunately, God cannot totally excuse us from our sins. Yes, folks, allowing evil to prevail with hardly a word, we have sinned. Freedom and liberty are gifts of God, and sin is the abuse of freedom. Godlessness and wickedness will be punished. The Bible says, " For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities — His eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." (Rom. 1:20 NIV)

Scripture then says, "For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles." (Rom. 1:21-23 NIV) Finally, we are told, "Since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, He gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They (the Godless) have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them." (Rom. 1: 28-32 NIV)

This is already happening in America. Other nations say we are guilty of infecting their countries with our filth. Ask yourself, aren't they right? And dear Christians, when we don't say anything about the evil around us, in a way we approve it. We have God's Word telling us what to do. The Ten Commandments provide a clear guideline on how to live our lives. Oh, I forgot...We have allowed these commandments to be removed from schools, courts, and basically any public place. But some of us still have them written on our hearts. Also, our consciences (the God-shaped vacuum we all have) tell us the difference between right and wrong. We really are without excuse, aren't we?

All that we see happening in the world is preparing for the emergence of the Anti-Christ. That will NOT be a good day. In the meantime, God is going to allow a "strong delusion" to come over people so they will believe the deceptions and lies from the perpetrators of evil. Some End-Time Bible teachers believe the delusion may already be upon us, because people can't seem to discern truth from lies.

It may be too late for restoring our nation. The only thing that can help us at this point is repentance. We need to fall on our knees and cry out for mercy, and for the forgiveness of our sins. If we are sincere, God will save us. Let's get right with the Lord while there is still time. To anyone willing to hear....
