Somalia was not always a poor country. In fact, we can fairly blame the present destitution of the Somali people on the Italians, because at the turn of the 20th Century it was Italy, at that time the colonial power ruling the Horn of Africa, that put an end to the slave trade that had kept Somalians fat and happy for more than 1,000 years. This is not to say that chattel slavery has entirely ceased in Somalia. If we can trust the 2023 Global Slavery Index, at present there are approximately 100,000 enslaved people in that sad agglomeration of war lords and mud huts we euphemistically refer to as the Somali nation. Come to think of it, do you ever wonder if the Somalians intend to pay reparations?
So, who are these Somalian people we have welcomed so warmly into our land? DNA testing has revealed them to be about 60% ethnic Cushite (dark skinned East African people) and about 40% West Eurasian (crudely speaking, proto-European). They also contain a small admixture of Bantu, representing the slaves they harvested from the southern half of Africa, and residual traces of Arab reflecting the Islamic conquest of the region and subsequent Indian Ocean and Red Sea slave trades they operated. And this is what makes the Somalians better than the Bantu people, and better than you.
From the 9th Century to the 18th, something above one million Bantu victims of the Indian Ocean Slave trade passed through the slave ports of Barawa and Mogadishu in Somalia and through Zanzibar, just to the south. That is half again the number of slaves that were brought to the American colonies. This harvest gradually increased over the generations.
By the mid-19th Century, the Somalis were harvesting 10,000 each year, marching their naked captives along jungle trails and caravan routes, some to their home plantations, but most to ports from which they were dispersed throughout the Islamic world. This number consisted mostly of women and children. The men were generally killed on site, though some were harnessed for agricultural labor, and an occasional castrated male was taken along for harem management.
It is estimated that three out of every four captives perished along the way, not including the emasculated males, of whom nineteen out of every twenty died from infection or loss of blood. From this it is not unreasonable to conclude that more than a million slaves were successfully delivered to Somali plantation masters and traders from this source alone. How many died is anyone’s guess.
But the Indian Ocean trade was not the major source of slaves to Somalia. Over that same thousand-year period some 2.5 million captives from Ethiopia and points south along the Horn of Africa’s east coast and from the Nile valley were herded by Somali traders to ports like Tadjoura, Zayla and Berbera for delivery to Arabia, Egypt, India, the Persian Gulf and other Islamic regions. For perspective, more than half a million of these poor souls were captured after 1807, the year England outlawed the slave trade. But that should come as no surprise, because Saudi Arabia and Yemen, major customers for the Somali slaves, did not outlaw slavery itself until 1962, roughly a century after America had sacrificed seven hundred and fifty thousand men in a civil war to achieve that same end.
For centuries these East African slaves were transported across the Red Sea by Somalis in dhows (small sailing vessels). But after the maritime slave trade was finally stifled by the western powers, the holy pilgrimage to Mecca became a slave trading rendezvous, and slave transport took the long way around by caravan. To avoid detection, the slavers disguised their human cargo as wives, concubines, sons, daughters and servants.
Fortunately for Somalia, in the period after World War I the west coast of Arabia just across the Red Sea operated as an independent state (the Kingdom of Hejaz). That short-lived realm became a major nexus of the slave trade by simply ignoring the laws and treaties under which slavery had been outlawed around the world. A very high percentage of African slaves during that period were delivered to the Arabian Peninsula by Somalians plying the Red Sea with their dhows. In this period when slavery was declining elsewhere, Somali traders continued to live large.
Even today in Somalia the nearly two million Bantu slave descendants are still treated for all practical purposes as slaves, and in fact the Somalians call them slaves (“addoon”). Simply put, ethnic Somalians see menial labor as beneath themselves—a residue of the full millennia during which they maintained absolute mastery and an imagined religious superiority over their benighted kafir neighbors. Consequently, they treat the Bantu as beasts of burden. That is to say the Bantus, whom they identify as racially inferior by their darker skin, coarser facial features, and kinky hair, perform all the arduous work in Somalia.
Bantus, including anyone with mixed Somali and Bantu blood, are forbidden to marry Somalians, to own land, or to receive an education, and are subject to wanton mistreatment including routine conscription for unpaid labor. From atrocities including even rape and murder they have no recourse. Theirs is a wretched dhimmitude, and needless to say, in that poor country they are the poorest of the poor.
Somalia today is a nation of five clans, each compelling ultimate loyalty from its members and each perennially vying for supremacy. To think of it any other way is to entirely miss the significance of Somali kinship ties. As a nation, Somalia’s boundaries were superimposed on the clans in 1960 by the unification of the British and Italian Somaliland colonies that occupied that territory. In 1969, after nine years of internecine strife, Mohammed Siad Barre (Siad), with the help of the Soviet Union, established his “scientific socialism” over the country. But the Soviets also backed and ultimately preferred Ethiopian Marxist strong man Mengistu Haile Mariam (Haile), whose “People’s Militia” in 1977, with substantial Russian assistance, defeated the Somalians in the Ogaden War.
Consequent to that defeat, all attempts at nation building imploded and the Somalis commenced a civil war, clan on clan. Siad maintained power by skillfully playing the other clans against each other while elevating members if his own clan, the “the Darod,” to all the important positions in his government.
It was at this point that the West stumbled into the Somali quagmire. The U.S. donated $800 million in aid in exchange for some military bases, and the Italians kicked in $1 billion. Total aid from all Western sources, according to Bob Goldof in The Fate of Africa, amounted to “$80 per person (or about $700 in today’s money), equivalent to half the gross national product. Foreign aid became the main prop of the Siad regime, used to ensure that his cronies and clan allies were rewarded.” Once these emoluments had begun, the Somalians quickly abandoned the agriculture that had sustained them for centuries and became dependent upon Western food aid.
But that was only the beginning. In 1988 Siad formed an alliance with his former nemesis in Ethiopia, and this freed him to deploy all his forces including modern fighter bombers generously provided by the West against the other Somali clans, at least one of which he largely annihilated. Shocked by this utterly predictable turn of events, the U.S. discontinued aid, and other Western nations followed suit. All hopes of an organized Somali nation collapsed; the era of the warlords had begun. Over the course of the conflict Siad was so reduced in power and territory that some mockingly referred to him as “the mayor of Mogadishu.”
More chaos ensued, and in 1992 the U.N. chose to get involved. In other words, at that point the U.S. sent in 30,000 soldiers in blue helmets while other member states sent token representations. Famine followed, and food aid was resumed. But in the eyes of the clan leaders, the food trucks were, as one Red Cross representative put it, “like sacks of money.” Warlords plundered the aid convoys and distributed the food amongst their own clans, selling what little they could not consume to starving outsiders at black market prices.
As civil war raged, hundreds of thousands died. The U.S. again intervened, this time commencing a “shoot to feed” policy. Stated more plainly, we killed some Somalians in order to feed others. The clans came to hate Americans almost as much as they hated each other. How should I summarize the horrors that followed through 1993 and to this day? Black Hawk Down!
In spite of all this, we Americans continue to follow up with more and more aid. And when that direct aid doesn’t suffice, we send billions of dollars via the Democrat fraud schemes of which more and more are revealed each day. “Child care,” this grift is called, with no sense of the irony. And all but a trickle of that booty and aid, no matter how we package it, falls into the hands of terrorists, aka warlords, who spread their wings like vultures over the distribution systems.
Meanwhile, the fighting and rapine and plunder go on. Somalians have lived this way for the better part of a century, a riot of beggar your neighbor and blood. They cannot imagine peace and order, and there is no indication they even want that sort of life. Sometimes, I hesitate to say, it even appears they are not smart enough to know the difference.
But consider this. Incest lowers generational intelligence, and nearly half (48%) of Somalis are married to a first or second cousin. And this is not something new. It is an ancestral tradition, designed to maintain clan homogeneity. Among various estimates, there is a near consensus that the average IQ of Somalians is about 68. An IQ of 70 is equivalent to a mental age of 9 to 12 years old. According to psychologists, this means someone with that low an IQ is just barely capable of “independent living with some support.” Translation? They can tie their own shoes.
In the out-of-fashion terminology that many resent because it is so glaringly accurate, an IQ of 70 also means “borderline retarded.” But I think the best way to put it is to say this: Even if willing to work, more than half of all the Somalians we have imported will need to rely upon some sort of welfare, and so they do, at the rate of about $4,000 per month per head. Even an IQ of 85, exceedingly high and rare among Somalians, means “borderline range,” just smart enough that with the conscientious assistance of supportive left-wing bureaucrats they are able to cash their welfare checks.
In their defense, when they enter a democracy like ours, Somalians vote, each and every last one of them. They vote even though the vast majority cannot even read a ballot. They vote as a monolithic block, most likely with little regard to their citizenship status. Coincidentally, they also vote for the very politicians who brought them into this country and then set them on the dole from which some 80% of them now draw billions in taxpayer dollars – dollars American citizens need and very much deserve.
And then, without the least gratitude or remorse, our Somali “refugees” engage in wholesale fraud schemes from which they live lavishly while our veterans camp on the street, and from which they send handsome remittances to their terrorist chiefs back home. But still, they do vote, and they do contribute to the campaigns of those politicians who support and defend them. That is the contribution they make to America, and that is precisely why the Democrats brought them here in the first place.
Can we overlook the fact that these invaders also rape our daughters, and then plead ignorance of our law on the grounds that such crimes are typically overlooked in their home country? Consistent with the Islamic view of women, rape is endemic in Somalia, and in their refugee camps, where it is “often perpetrated by armed groups, clan militias,” a fact even Google feels obliged to admit. Bandits, police, and even aid workers participate in this sport. In our own country, cases like that of Abdimahat Bille Mohamed are not uncommon. Bille raped a 15-year-old girl in 2017, and followed up with the rape-murder of adult woman this year. Having beat that woman into a coma, he violated her limp body in front of a church while a fire crew watched. Bille had been convicted of two prior rapes, but was released each time on probation.
We are all familiar with Somali piracy, and the fact that Somali pirates have murdered American hostages in cold blood. But are you familiar with the case of Cholo Abdi Abdullah? Abdi, a member of al Shabaab who had trained extensively with that organization in Somalia, was convicted of providing material support to foreign terrorists, conspiring to murder U.S. nationals, committing aircraft piracy, and transnational acts of terrorism, among other things. How did a creature like that get past the “thorough vetting” the Biden Administration promised us? I suspect he arrived with a bundle of ballots under his arm.
The blatant affrontery of this Somali invasion is stupefying. Must we turn a blind eye to their intimidating public demonstrations and their incessant demands that we infidels submit to them? (They are “offended” by bacon!) Will we continue to pretend that our outrage at their disgusting conduct makes us somehow “Islamophobic?” When, with a bitter sneer they spit in our faces, how long must we continue to call it dew?
Who imagined in the first place that bringing Somalians here would be good for our country? Due to their cultural history, they are clannish and warlike and manifestly incapable of real civilization. Due to their enduring tradition as slave masters, they disdain manual labor, which is the only sort of work of which most of them are capable – that sort of work that robots have long since rendered obsolete. Due to their belligerent Islamic fanaticism, they are aggressively revolutionary against Western institutions and values. They demand Sharia law, which would relegate the rest of us to the same status as that of the forlorn Bantus in their homeland. And due to their delusional sense of superiority, which at the same time manages to both overlook and condone their moral depravity, they can never be integrated.
Not all of them, you say? Then let me ask you this: When these immigrant Somalians riot and protest in our streets, are any of them left at home? Or are they all on parade, shouting and violently gesticulating in unison? Since they are nearly all unemployed, why do they need hundreds upon hundreds of day care centers? When they squat on their mats for their call to prayer in the streets of our cities, do they leave us our hymns and our preachers? Or do they shut other religious expression down? (If you don’t know, ask the British!) These Somalians in our land take everything, and they contribute nothing. As more arrive, do you imagine any of this will improve?
I am not judging, because I have been taught that all cultures are “relative” and therefore equal. But heaven help me, some cultures seem to me just a bit more equal than others, and as they say, “import the third world and you become the third world.” So, I say in the most respectful and conciliatory terms possible, no more emoluments! Cut off all the graft and aid and get these parasitic interlopers the hell out!
